Computer Help

Guys, I've had my computer for 4 years now. It's pretty good for every day use, etc. But, I want to upgrade the video card and the memory.

This is the computer ...

2gb RAM, and a decent dx10 card, maybe a 6800GT or so. Should go nicely with your P4.

It depends on what your motherboard can support though. What kind of video slots does it support? (AGP, PCI, PIC-e, etc)

What are you looking for in the upgrades?
What are the reasons for upgrading?
What's your budget?

I just need those three things and I can help you out.

The 6800GT isn't DX10. That card is one of the slowest and oldest on the market. I don't even know if they make them anymore.

I'm playing a few games, I know my computer isn't any gaming rig though. I'm willing to spend $100 on the video card.

The memory I need another gig of memory. I have 4 memory slots that are filled up with two 512s currently which are in Position 1 and 3.

XP & I'm not planning on upgrading to anything else. I doubt I'll be getting into photoshop.

I forgot to say it's PCI Express.

go with a couple gigs of ram - no more than three (32 bit can't recognize any more) stick with two 1 gig corsair sticks or get two more 512's...

if you were willing to drop a little bit more on the gpu you could gowith a Nvidia GeForce 9600GT... 150-160 range...

if you are set on +/- 100 GeForce 8600 or 8800 GT

yes. When you buy the card just make sure it is PCI-e compatible. Majority of cards on the market today are PCI-e.

That's why I was asking. I don't know the difference.

Edit: I just found this link, it's got a much better spec sheet.

as for the ram you need DDR SDRAM DIMM 184 pin pc3200 in either 512 or 1gig sticks.
