Missing dollar quiz

This will Mess With Your Head....

3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30
SO EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.
A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25

SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5.
ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.
THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

It is worded wrong. $25 plus the the $1 that each man got back = $28, not $27. Add the $2 that the bellboy kept = $30.

The guys were out a total of $27. The $2 the bell boy kept was part of the $27.

Wow your reading comprehension sucks....

What is said is that each man paid $10.00. When the bellboy came back he gave them each $1.00. Making the total they paid for the room to be $9 each. 9x3 = $27.00. Its a mathematic anamoly.

Not really, banker boy! It's trick wording, the $2 kept by the bell boy is part of the net $27 they paid. Take it from a CPA!

I wasn't sure how this would go over at first, sent to me by my olé man who is 89 years old. Thought I would see how smart our community is, But I didn't realize how old this was. 40 years? I need to get out more often.

By my calculation each man paid $9 x 3men = $27
$2 is in the bell boys pocket and $25 is down in the lobby register.

It's cruel of you to ask about a missing dollar when you know good and well we have many members here from the Carolinas.

I call it a misstatement of facts. deception.

The facts in this riddle are clear: There is an initial $30 charge. It should have been $25, so $5 must be returned and accounted for. $3 is given to the 3 friends, $2 is kept by the bellhop - there you have the $5. The trick to this riddle is that the addition and subtraction are done at the wrong times to misdirect your thinking - and quite successfully for most. Each of the 3 friends did indeed pay $9, not $10, and as far as the friends are concerned, they paid $27 for the night. But we know that the clerk will tell us that they were charged only $25 and when you add the $3 returned with the $2 kept by the bellhop, you come up with $30.

OR

The following night two friends check into the same motel. Once again the clerk charges them $30, or $15 per person. After the clerk remembers the total rate is only $25 he sends the bellhop upstairs with five $1 bills to pay the two friends back. The bellhop knows he got away with larceny once so he tries it again. But this time he pockets $3 and returns $2 to the hotel guests ($1 per guest). So each of the two guests got $1 back from their original $15. Therefore each paid $14 which is a total payment of $28 for the room. Now the bellhop has $3, the guests paid $28, for a total of $31....THERE'S THE MISSING DOLLAR!!!!
