I know since I got a HD box and a HD LCD flat screen I have not rented or bought a DVD since. With Ondemand through my cable company, renting movies is easy and they are all in HD. I also have HBO, Starz, Encores and SHowtime and all have Ondemad, thousands of movies to choose from. DVDs will be dead in 5 years IMO..

I am pretty sure people like me will keep dvd's around for a little longer than 5 years, I like not being stuck in one place to watch all my favorite movies I like to take my movies with me.

You can.

www.slysoft.com

As long as you have a BD burner/writer, you can make back-up copies.
Mind you... the blanks are still very expensive, but I remember when the first DVD burners came out, they were expensive too, as well as the blanks.
They will come down eventually

I havnt backed up any BD titles yet, so if I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Thanks

So I'm not the only one that knows about The Fox. I use a couple of their products to put movies on my portable player. I wasn't aware they had support for Blu-Ray. I'll take a look.

Thanks!!

I was really waiting to see who would win out on this battle. It certainly has the feel of VHS versus BETA... or LASER DISC versus DVD...

I'm proud to say that my parents owned a BETA (refused to get VHS only until after BETA vanished from our local video store) and, I was the not so proud owner of a LASER DISC player (it doubled as a 5-cd carousel though!).

I figured I'd sit this one out until after it became a definite... looks like we need to start exploring BluRay!
