Mark the driver down as another victim.

In the Bay Area a few years back they had huge problems with "sideshows" where cars would randomly start spinning donuts at an intersection and people would gather to watch. Many times the car would spin out of control and hit the crowd, injuring or killing people.

Its just plain D.U.M.B.

Watching, not participating in, in an illegal street race is wrong ethically or legally?

Bunch of wanna-be "Fast and Furious" fools if you ask me. It sucks so many were killed but this is nothing new for that area. Locals have complained to the cops for years to do something about it, but there isn't much they can do since they all scatter by the time the cops arrive. This story has been all over my local news all week. They interviewed this one guy who says he is a "street racer" and blames this on one of the "look outs" who is supposed to stop traffic from continuing on that road while the "street race" is taking place.

Nothing much, just the typical meetings and discussions.

What those people were doinfg and where they were doing it is idiotic. I used to do a lot of "street racing" but not your normal set up. In Abilene, Tx, there was no track so a group of us started meeting at an abandoned industrial development on Friday and Saturday nights at about 10:00. We would race till 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. The cops were cool with it as it would keep the racing off the main streets and there was no traffic where we were. They would sit over on the highway and watch and then drive through, making sure no minors were drinking. You had to be going there to get there. There was a wide, straight street about 1/2 mile long. We marked off a quarter and had a blast. It was run what you brung and challange racing. There were two accidents there in the 5 years or so before i moved to Fort Worth. One guy's throttle hung in a 55 Chevy with a 427. he went over the curb at the end and tore it up pretty bad. the other was me, in a friends T-bucket. The reverse lockout failed and i went into reverse at about 100 mph. I took a sight seeing tour in a vacant field, just missed a telephone pole and ended up back in the street. A pic is in my gallery under Mustang and Other. Most of the time I drove my 54 and had a lot of fun out running big block Chevys with my little 351C on nitrous. I miss those nights!

Ethically, but it was also wrong for them to be out in the middle of a highway like that.
