Should have started this about 2 months ago and the answer could have been yes. I just replaced mine, at 145 bucks, it seem easier just to slap a new one in it.

I'm also planning on how to pull and rebuild a chevy 350 this summer. And maybe a transmission. Haven't decided yet.

Wish I would have gotten to this thread sooner. Do it! But, do it right. Since starting to watch Podcasts, I actually watch them more than TV, even downgraded my cable to the basic. There is a SEVERE lack of quality automotive podcasts out there. There are a couple of big places that do podcasts, but they are audio only, which is why they suck. I subscribe to 3 current automotive podcasts, Garage 419, VOD cars, and I can't remember the name of the third. Problem with those are, they are more car-only focused and not how-to's. The how-to's I have seen has been some guy saying "look at this lift, we are going to bolt it right here" then it cuts to it already installed "Now doesn't that look nice" (DUMB!!)

If you do it, my suggestions would be as follows.

Make sure it is Video. An audio only description of what you are doing or how good something looks is annoying.

Make sure it is longer than just a couple of minutes. The podcasts I enjoy the most, and get the most information from are between 25 minutes and an hour.

Make a few episodes and promote the hell out of it. If you build up a subscriber base, you would probably be able to get sponsors to fund your projects and maybe even do it professionally, if you get enough viewers. There are even some companies that produce podcasts that you might be able to contract with to edit and compress your footage and maybe even find sponsors. ie. revision3

Make sure you actually show what you are doing, do it well, and have some fun with it. I've watched a few podcasts that were very informative, but just couldn't stay awake to watch them.

Make sure you distribute it in multiple formats. Not only is there the IPod, but the Zune 2 is gaining market share, the IPhone, Apple TV, and media center PC's, and people who just watch it on their computer. I personally watch most of my shows through my IPod, but if there is one I want to share, or watch more of, I play it on my 63" HDTV through my computer. Now if you only offered a small quicktime format for IPod, I wouldn't be able to do that.

Sorry to rant for so long, but I have been salivating for years for someone to come out with a decent, video, automotive podcast. If you do it, I will subscribe. But make sure it doesn't suck.

Thanks for the input. I hear you completely. I definately don't want it to suck. That being said, I plan on SHOW (video) in detail the processes as I do them. None of that crap like have on tv, where they only show you a couple of steps. Now that I think about it I got a big brake kit on Acura RSX for a buddy. That seems like it would make a pretty good first show. Its a pretty intersting install. I also have noticed that there are NO quality automotive podcast, so thats why I want to do this, and do it right. Now you will have to deal with my editting for a little while until I can make friends with somewith with a mac that is willing to help me out. Adobe isn't the most user friendly software out there.

Thanks for your input

Also, I'm going to try to do this bi-weekly since I'm in school. What does everyone think about that?

noticed my thread got bump...anyway I figured I'd let yall know whats going on in the world of On The Road Again Podcast.

Basically I have decided to delay until this summer. I have done a few videos, but haven't had time to edit them yet. Basically I am shooting a few shows when I have time.

Anyway, I'm trying to not let this project stall out, and hopefully once I get it where I want it, it will be a very informative podcast.

Thanks again Justin

hello
I thought i'd put 2cents in here.
You could start with something small, like easy ways of changing the back sparkplugs , or how to use di electric greese anything like that.
