I know I've heard nothing can be done about the ads, but we need to get the new owners to do something. This is ridiculous.

No issues here on my MacBook running Camino. I also checked my PC with both IE and Firefox and no dice. No issues. Seems like a problem with your guys' hardware.

Running Vista, and using Firefox...the annoying Knight Rider ad is a thing of the past...and my wife thinks that I am working. She doesn't know to check my history on Mozilla. Another thing that I like is that spell check alerts me when I misspell a word. Sometimes on IE, the Knight Rider ad made my banana quit dancing. That is a crime in and of itself.

I am by no means an expert, I downloaded adblocker, and started using Firefox today, and am loving it. Previously, I only used it for work email. For some reason, my company remote sever has issues with vistas, and the new IE.

for anyone that's using firefox, download the latest adblocker and subscribe to the adblock subscription listing. the window pops up with selections after you d/l. choose "Easy USA" listing and reload the page or restart FF. voila! no more ad. i think it's going to be a cheesy made for tv remake anyways.

you must not have it set up right... I never see any ads on this site and I'm using firefox with the ad blocker... you just have to set up your blocks with the right settings.

well, considering the original KITT had skinny 14" tires with hubcaps and a low output engine, I'd say it's a big improvement

Sure... as an example, I opened my blockable items on this page and here are the filters that are catching all the ads...

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/*
http://a248.e.akamai.net/*

The trick is to use the asterisk (*) to catch the all the ads for a certain page. But if you go nuts with blocking sites using the asterisk you can also block the good stuff.

Using the filters above, I don't miss any of the pictures that people post.

I don't subscribe to any filter lists... I like the control of setting my own filters. If I ever open a page and things look wrong/missing, I just disable the adblocker to see what happens. If you realize you are blocking things you want to see, open the blockable items and see which filter is blocking the good stuff, then edit/delete the filter as needed.

Above are the ad filters that catch things on this forum. Below are my top ad filters, in order of hits... the plugin tracks how many hits they get. You can see I have some general ones to pick up all kinds of ad servers. Even though I never go to pages like "digitalmediacommunications" you still get lots of hits because other sites will tie into the ad servers for their content.

PS - I don't think the google-analytics blocks any ads... but it keeps google from watching what I do.

EDIT - oops... didn't realize that this would automatically make links... so I think I've removed the links now...
EDIT 2 - ok, even after I remove the links, the forum re-links them... so you just have to see it that way... just don't click on the links
