Street Tuner Challenge on Speed puts 3 car modifiers/builders agains each other to see who can essentially build/tune a better car. The three cars were Ford Focus, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9, and a Mini Cooper. I must say I was pretty impressed with the Focus the Corvette Specialties team built. Didn't like the orange color, but it really ended up looking nice. In stock form the Focus put down 113 HP to the wheels; after the motor build they put down 370 HP to the wheels... Pretty nice. Of course I was partial to the EVO. It put down 264 HP STOCK!!!! After the motor build up they got up to 547 HP to the wheels; very nice!! I'd still rather have the Evo, but the Focus turned out pretty good.

I was disapointed they didnt take the opportunity to put a 5.0L in the focus.

 

Pretty slick looking, tripling the factory HP is doing pretty good IMO!

 

You have seen the video of the stroked 5.0 equipped Focus, right? If not, I'll have to find that video and post it. It's pretty sick to hear that thing run. Considering parts were available to do this swap, and the fact that the Focus was designed after its rear-wheel rally brother, Ford might have offered this as an "upgrade". Guess not!

Having owned two SVT Foci, and worked on numerous others, I sometimes felt as if Ford could have spent some more time developing the SVT model to yield more power. At the motor, the car only pushed 170 HP and ~110-120 ft. lbs of TQ. I dynoed my first one after a short ram and SCT Xcal installation. Car produced 142 HP at the wheels and roughly 133 ft. lbs. TQ. Truly the SVTF had superb handling, and was an all around great car. When I was done with all the minor bolt-ons, the car only produced about 160 HP and 139 ft. lbs TQ on the dyno.

The new Focus is going to take awhile to grow on people. I'm starting to see more of them around my neck of the woods. About half sedans and the other half are coupes. From the ones I've seen moded (like the one above), I'd say that if I had the money to buy another car and do something like that to it, then I would. Most of the Focus guys are upset that Ford (America) did not bring over the C1 chassis from the other side of the ocean.

 

we bought the wife a focus just like that one except in blue. Don't think I can talk her into a turbo for it..so maybe my ST can have one lol... my ST has a 2.3L version of that motor.. wonder if I can break 400 WHP with it.
