I was wondering if anyone had any input on whether this would work or not.
I bought a game from Best Buy but would like to return it. However the package is open and they will only let me exchange for the same item. If I were to exchange the game for a new one that is sealed, would I be able to go to another Best Buy and return it and saying "I don't have a receipt."? Even if I were to only get store credit I would be happy.
Or do they have any sort of safeguard in place to prevent this from happening?

Music CD's and installable software can "usually" only be exchanged for the same title. Opened or unopened. It's to prevent people from ripping/installing and then returning the item.
This is not true however for media such as games for the PS2 since you "can't" steal it off the media and then return it.
I have gotten around this once or twice in the past however. Bought a CD that someone got me for my birthday a week later. Doh!

Anyhow, my friend has a $600 DVD/CD duplicator that can make exact images of the disc, and include the protection, such as Macrovision still intact.

Come to think of it, there is certain stuff I can just drag and drop on my Macintosh and it will copy to a cd or dvd from one that was protected. It's sorta interesting.

Doing it myself is the best practice, because I know what I'm doing. Plus I've got the patience to do it right the first time...
Here's a pic of the wiring harness for my deck that I made:
I soldered and shrink wrapped the connections... no backdoor or Bestbuy/Circuit *****ty shop would do it that good..:
Yup, can't tell you how many times I've sat down with the soldering iron and a wiring harness. Of course nothing will make you curse more than finishing up a nice pretty connection only to realize you forgot the heat shrink tubing.
was it a PC game? Then no chance i think. A console game you might have a chance for direct replace for a new copy, then do what the other guy said, take it to some other game store completely sealed

I bought a copy of a deerhunter game for pc last year at Best Buy. Upon trying it out I realized just what a p.o.s. it was. I went to the store the next day, talked to a nice, younger, (attractive
) associate and made up some b.s. that, I kid you not, worked quite well...
me: "I just bought this game for my little brother but it won't work on his older computer" (I don't even have a lil bro BTW)
her: "It won't work on his cpu? (asks like wtf)"
me "Yeah, I guess so."
her: "I can't really except and open return - why don't you just keep it?"
me: (thinking wtf woman) "Um, I would, but I don't like hunting games - they are too gruesome and violent" (lolz)
her: (knowing I'm full of shiot probably) "Well, ok then. Let me ask my manager"
me: "I DID just get it yesterday too - It's not like I'm trying to pull anything"
---she steps away and asks manager---
her: "Well, ok then. I guess this time we can. But in the future make sure realize we can't REALLY do this"
me: "Yup! No problem!"
---walked out with money back on CC---
I guarantee that is almost exactly as it went down - try it and it just may work! (Note - that day I ended up going back there to pick up the new Hitman game for PC 'cause I was bored... and I thought I hated gruesome games
