I guess someone could question why I spend so much money on my new truck just to make it look good. I guess the answer would be, because I can and I want to.
I just can't get over how many people buy expensive 4x4's and never take them off-road, it mostly for show.
This is not a slam, only an observation. I asked on another post to see pictures of trucks that had 20's on them. I think of 8 or 10, only 1 was a 2 wheel drive truck. I started noticing here in my local area. The are maybe 1 out of 10 that are 2wd, and that's only the F150's. I didn't realize that Ford made many 4x4's.

I certainly get enough use out of mine to justify the extra cost. Most of it is recreational, but without 4x4, I wouldn't be able to do it. Whether it be trying to launch a boat in some rough areas, or driving to icefishing locations on a frozen lake covered in snow or slush, if it wasn't for 4 wheel drive, I wouldn't be able to do it.
Our typical Canadian winters make having a 4x4 fun to drive in the snow, as an added bonus. About 2 weeks ago we got nailed with a storm. I wouldn't have made it off my street to get to work without 4 wheel drive. My subdivision wasn't plowed until the following day.

I don't understand big wheels with low profile rubber on a 4x4 though.

I don't understand why people think that the only thing 4X4 is good for is going offroad. I can't get up my steep driveway after it snows without putting it in 4-wheel drive and I live in the city. I use 4-wheel drive quite often in the winter.
snow... maybe pulling a trailer through your yard... If it weren't for my 4x4, i would be screwed, but I never offroad it...

Living in Kansas City witht the weather we get including snow, I could not get to work without 4x4... therefore I cannot afford to go without it in my opinion. My next vehicle will be a car, but if I can't afford to keep the truck also, my next vehicle will be another 4x4 of some sort.
I live in Cleveland, and we get a decent amount of snow---but many of the 4X4's never get put into high range at all. Many drive the Hummers around here for prestige...most of the cities and suburbs arouond here are pretty good at snow removal...it is all about what you are seen driving in...I use my 4X4 becasue I cut down trees to heat my house---I go on golf courses and the like...but many ofthe SUV's around here are for appearance...

I do and don't like 4x4...
Maybe my next truck will be 4x4... even though I live in the snow belt... both of my RWD F150's never had a problem.
That Escape I had, the 4x4 was FAKE. The whole car would go sideways on a hill... it was dangerous.
