So the general public doesn't have much input on this then?? Or do the delegates take into consideration the popularity of one of the members before nominating?? Would seem they'd nominate one most likely to win.
The caucuses and primaries are an attempt to shake down the candidates and determine who has the metal to run and hold office. This forces those who are running to meet with the general public and get their message (platform) across. Candidates that are able to motivate the base are usually successful and gather enough momentum to capture the parties' nomination at the conventions.
Once at the national party conventions, the delegates from the states cast votes for the person who will represent the political party in the November general election. In order to secure a party’s nomination, a candidate must receive a majority of the votes from the delegates. It is not unusual for delegates to vote several times before one candidate secures the majority of the votes and officially becomes that party’s candidate for the election to determine the next President of the United States

Usually, one party searches for a candidate to run against the incumbent.
Term limits ensure America gets a flea bath whether we want one or not.
2008 Bush (Term Limit)
2000 Clinton (Term Limit)
1988 Reagan (Term limit)
1968 Johnson ( I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your President)
So the general american public has little to no influence on who will recieve the parties nomination??
