John Edwards makes me SICK!!

I was watching some caucus coverage from Iowa and caught some of John Edwards speech. He was talking about health care; specifically about people who don't have health care insurance. He said people will go to the emergency room tonight knowing they will be denied health care. That is a totally rediculous statement. No emergency room is allowed to Deny care to anyone regargless if they have health care insurance or not. They may be transferred to another hospital or treated and released, but noone is Denied health care in an Emergency Room in the US. I'm sure there are some exceptions, but it is against the law to turn patients away from an ER. I'm steaming and literally sick to my stomach that someone so out of touch with "average Americans" can make a statement that uneducated!!

Why would they go if they knew they would be denied?
The Emergency Room will treat you but, you can't stay in Emergency indefinetly.
There are some conditions that require you to be 'admitted' to the hospital.

My father went to the emergency room last month.
He had to be admitted and stayed two weeks.
He has insurance, I saw a copy of the bill. 2 weeks with some tests came to $90,000.

That's $6,400 a day and would wipe out anyone without coverage.

Something is wrong with the system when a hospital charges 60 bucks for a 5 cent aspirin.

The reason it gets me so worked up is people will actually listen to that load of crap and say, "people without insurance are denied care in ER's!! That is why we need socialized healthcare; so the uninsured can get treatment." I can tell you first hand uninsured Americans get the same care in a public hospital as anyone else. If you go to the ER at 2am with a sore throat you may wait 6 or 8 hours, but so would someone with insurance because that is NOT AN EMERGENCY!! The uninsured have surgery, scans, medical treatments, and follow ups just like the insured. It is the law.

A private hospital can refuse treatment to anyone beyond an ER stay... a public state funded institution can not. If someone goes to a state funded hospital and has a broken arm, bowel obstruction, aneurysm, stroke, heart attack, etc etc etc they are admitted and treated just like someone with insurance. The system may be flawed and overpriced, but everyone gets health care. Most people don't know that. The reason prices are so high and insurance keeps rising is because the uninsured do get treatment. Those of us who work and pay for insurance pay for those who do not.

That is exactly what it is. If a Dem gets elected and we go to a true Socialized Medicine plan taxes will skyrocket. Again affecting those of us who work. All that will change for the uninsured and unemployed is the ability to go to a private hospital essentially. Get ready to pay 50% + in taxes if socialized medicine is enacted. Also get ready to wait in line for a transplant, chemo, radiation, surgery etc. It is not on a need base it is simply when you get put on the list. If a guy that can live for 5 more years before he needs his transplant is next in line on the waiting list and you are number 250 and need it in a month or you will die; guess who gets it. The guy who is next in line. It is not need based like the system is now. Believe me people without insurance get transplants and neurosugery everyone else and there is not "list".

Back in 1987 I was in college and working two jobs. I thought if Clinton wins it will be for one term, the economy will go bust, taxes will rise and government spending will go off the charts.... Well I think I was pretty wrong in all cases. I still don't understand all the factors, well except the fallout of all the bogus businesses and over valued companies. The false Y2K boom where anybody that could identify a keyboard could get a high paying IT job. (well I knew a couple that did not even have that much experience). All those Bowl sponsors and Stadium sponsors are where now??? Even in the past 10 years, I would say that most white collar jobs were created by companies having to comply to new Government regulations. We at least it has help my business.

Don't get caught up in the Democratic vs Republican BS... They are all the same. Once in a while we get lucky and a good guy comes along. But their is no way they can make everyone happy. The political "elect me" promises are fluff that is suppose to trick people into thinking ... awe, they care. Just keep in mind that no matter who you vote for... you still have a 99.9% chance of electing a thief, a lier, an adulterer, and a power hungry SOB.

Can you tell I think little of politicians

This boils down to simple economics. Those of us who pay taxes will pay more if those who do not get the same health care. Something has to give somewhere. Every american can not have equal health care unless those of us who pay taxes pay more. Look at Canada, France, or Great Britain. All have socialized health care and all of them pay WAY more taxes than we do. This will turn into another hand out for those who choose not to work. There are plenty of folks who are unable to work and need assistance, but there are just as many americans who CHOOSE not to work and take hand outs. Another problem is the number of illegal immigrants getting health care for free. When you have upwards of 40 million illegals in the country... guess what; they go to the hospital and get treated for FREE as well. Republican or Democrat probably doesn't matter in most issues, but it sure does here!

I really dont want to get in a pissing match here, but. Every republican backer I know seems to think that Democrats only represent the low-life, non-working scum. There are a lot more things at work here than just red or blue. We can talk about the cost of health care until we are blue in the face, and no political figure whether Republican or Democrat will be able to fix it.

How do we fix the Health care problems?
1) Make private health care more affordable by putting a limit on private health care providers profits.

2) Offering tax breaks to those who pay for private health care.

We can talk about what class of Americans dont have insurance, and who gets what for free, until we are blue in the face. Ok, illegal immigrants get free health care, thats why its so expensive...but wait.....If business's that employ them would'nt, they would have no reason to stay here.....
We need to stop looking at the "illegals" issue as a individual fault.
Come on. If I knew I could go to Canada and make triple what I make in the US, with free health care, doing the same thing I do here......I'd go.

Now, if I knew I could go to Canada, get free health care but, no company would hire me.......I'd stay here.

The problem isnt with the "illegal". Its with the companies that are allowed to employ them without fear from our government......

Modern medicine has morphed from a healing profession into a business where the importance of profit takes precedence over greater human needs.

Lets look at the issues for what they are. Its a "BIG MONEY" vs. "little money" world. When we collectively start to see where the real evils are, then and only then will we be able to fix them. Corruption, greed and money filter into every ill in politics.......The sooner we all, red and blue, realize it the better this country will be........

Red Blue or Independent... there will always be a pissing match. Prioritities are in different places though. Dems are usually for bigger gov't, more social programs, and a smaller military. Republicans are pro business, lower taxes (most of the time), smaller govt, and lower taxes. Now we all know it doesn't work out that way, but it's a pretty good start of the differences. Like it or not Illegal Immigrants are to blame for a lot of our healthcare and insurances costs. You can say we can't blame them, but we can. Sure we can blame the gov't for not fixing the problem either, but every time a program, bill, law, etc goes through to stop illegals some wacko civil liberties group pitches a fit. The way I look at illegal immigrants is... YOU DON'T HAVE RIGHTS. You are in the US ILLEGALLY. Stand in line like every other immigrant from every other country and go through the LEGAL procedures. It may take 3, 5, or ten years, but that's the process. I'm tired of paying for people who won't work, want a hand out, are here illegally, or just try to take what isn't theirs. I don't care what party takes care of it... Whoever wants to pony up and take on Immigration, Terrorism, and Health Care can have my vote!

Dallas county was trying to bill Mexico for the costs of the Illegals healthcare...Thought you would get a kick out of this:

The county is already preparing to send bills to several counties for treating their residents. Last year, the county had $76.5 million in health care costs associated with treating noncounty residents, according to numbers prepared by county staff.

This read was entertaining also:

Commissioners in Dallas County, Texas, plan to ask the Mexican government to pay for the medical care given to Mexican nationals at a local hospital.

Each year, Dallas County taxpayers spend $15 million to treat Mexican nationals at Parkland Hospital – and that total includes only the first two days of the patients' emergency care, according to CBS 11 News in Dallas.

"We will be sending a bill to Mexico's president to explain to him and to the embassy how much money it is costing the Dallas County taxpayer to treat their residents, and they need to reimburse Dallas County," said County Judge Margaret Keliher.

Jesse Diaz, local president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, complained: "Why punish Mexico? Mexico should not be a scapegoat … the immigrants are paying taxes, buying homes and cars, and are contributing to the economy."

Dallas County will also send bills to nearby Texas counties whose residents seek care at Parkland – running up a tab of nearly $27 million a year, according to Keliher.
