2009 Nissan GT-R
2009 Nissan GT-R
Well, they've teased performance enthusiasts for 20+ years with the Nissan Skyline GT-R. Well, the GT-R finally hits US shores as a 2009 model, with power (and a price tag) rivaling that of a Corvete Z-06, but from a V6- with performance numbers (0 - 60 in 3.5 seconds) matching and/or exceeding that of a Porsche Turbo.
The bang for the buck wars just go hotter...

The most notable modification is to the face. Gone is the "running mascara" beneath the headlights, replaced by a body-colored bumper, which makes the face look much cleaner and more elegant. Some say the car looks like an F-18 fighter jet on wheels while others feel that it belongs on the set of Transformers. Either way, the styling speaks volumes of what this car is capable of on the open road.
Under the hood a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 that pumps out 480 bhp and about 430 lb.-ft. of torque. Nissan claims that the GT-R runs to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, which puts it in Porsche 911 Turbo territory. In fact, GT-R project chief, Kazutoshi Mizuno, says that the GT-R lapped the famed North Course at the Nürburgring faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo. Not bad for a car that we hear will cost about $70,000. The car goes on sale first in Japan, then in the summer of 2008 in the U.S. as a 2009 model. R&T was the only magazine to drive a U.S.-spec model. Check out our feature story in the January issue of Road & Track.

The picture above, seems like a longer vehicle, with lines similiar to that of the old (1996 era) 240 SX, but with 480 HP.
Hell, I'd drive a Pontiac Aztek, or Dodge Caliber- if I had a 0-60 in 3.5 second, 480 HP secret under the hood. They don't get much uglier than that.

Have you seen the body kits most ricers strap on the Hondas, Nissans and Toyotas? They are not happy unless it is ugly. Gotta give Nissan credit for knowing what its target audience likes

Finally, I was inlove with the previous Generation (Circa 2002) and was "this" close to trading my 2000 Expedition on it. I'd worked everything out on the internet, agreed on a price, and everything. Went, picked out my white Maxima SE w/Navigation, and the wing, test drove it and everything.
I even unloaded my Expedition, and had all my major stuff sitting on the curb- when they came to get my Expedition to "officially" appraise it. When they cranked it up, and I heard my Borla SIDO come to life, I was like, "Aw Hell Naw- I can't trade my truck on this..."
So, I just happened to be the on-call MGR that night, I paged myself, acted like there was a major crisis at work, got my keys, and the wife and I left. I haven't been back on the Trophy Nissan lot in 5 years.
I Love the previous, and slightly changed Maxima's, but the 2002/2003 I was about to get- I loved everything except the front grill. Five years later, I still don't like it, but I thought I could live with it.
That year, I debated on a Maxima, a Mustang Cobra, a Lightning, a Mustang GT, and a Corvette, before finally getting a 2003 Ford Expedition EB.
I think Nissan is at a point now, where they're either goign to have to take the Maxima upscale into (or beyond) the Toyota Avalon, or drop it. Seeing how large, powerful, and well equipped the Altima's are (SE. 3.5L), they are cannibalizing the Maxima- and they have been since 2001, when the Altima went from compact to mid-size.
