Ever kill a usb stick?

I think I just killed two of mine. One is a 256mb Cruzer Micro and the other is a 2gb Cruzer. I've had them sitting under my lcd moniter for weeks and I think that might be what killed them. They were working a few weeks ago when I last used them. That's where I always keep them if they're not in my pocket or else I loose them. I guess I'll leave them there now to remind myself not to put any new ones there.

I killed mine. It went to read only mode. No little switch on this one to switch between lock mode and off, so I can read what's on it, but can't do squat with it otherwise.

You could tie a string to it and use it to entertain the cat.

I don't know if being under the monitor killed them. Just seems odd they both went at the same time. The small one is about 4 years old while the 2gb was just bought about 6 months ago.

That's strange that they both went out the same time. Correct me if I'm wrong but I remeber hearing somewhere that those USB memory sticks have a small battery inside of them. Maybe your battery went out on the older one. Can anyone confirm this, or is my memory failing? I would try to get the newer one warrantied since it's only 6 months old.
