Memphis for New Years

Anyone in Memphis for New Years? It was my first time in Memphis, and I had a blast! 6 of my friends and I stayed at the DoubleTree on Union Ave 2 nights. Ate dinner downtown at a BBQ joint (best BBQ Ive ever had of course), went to the Sun Studio where Elvis and Jonny Cash got started, went and walked around the Redbirds stadium, saw the ducks at the Peabody, took a carriage ride around the city, and partied like he// on Beale Street. Memphis rocks for New Years!

You and 6 of your friends crammed into a carriage ride. How sweet.

Hope you were carrying a pistol. Memphis is a fun place but the crime is TERRIBLE!! I think they just passed Detroit for the worst crime rate in the nation.

Where did you go for the bar-b-que. The best place that I know of downtown is Charles Vergo's Rendezvous. You enter the place though an alley. Is this the place? I have not done New Years in Memphis but have gotten 5/4ths drunk on Beale a time or three.

A nice place to visit while heavily armed but, other than that, I wouldn't want to stick around there much.

I've been in there on business a time or three and, I must say, it's not atop my list of places to 'hang out'. I'd much rather spend the time over in Nashville...

Glad you had a good time and got out of there with all of your digits and without the use of kevlar shielding.

You sure aren't going to beat the BBQ. Rendevous is one of the best places for sure. You might have to ask some locals how to find it, but it is good.

I won't, I have gone so far as to save it as a waypoint in my phone's GPS so that I will never drive around that block several times looking for that sign.

the BBQ place was called Rum Runners or something like that...on the corner of Beale and 2nd or 3rd Street...can't remember exactly. I was a little worried about the crime, and since we were with 3 hotties, I was just waiting for something to happen. I did get my box cutter razor taken away by a bouncer though right after paying cover...I hardly ever notice I have the thing on since I take it everywhere.
