Stealerships closing?

I live in the Souther California area and two large dealerships have closed and are in the process of closing. One is Board ford in Whittier and the other is Claremont Ford off the 10 freeway. Both of these were fairly large dealers and both have closed. any other closing in your areas? guess ford is losing lots of business

Some big Ford Dealers in Kansas City have gone out or gotten smaller, and one here in Liberty moved to a bigger location (I think because their old location was to small to survive in the end). A dealer in central Iowa near where I went to college did the same thing as the one here in Liberty. Times are tough for Ford.

It's not just Ford who's struggling. They're all hurting. But 2 years ago or so, Ford announced that it planned on closing like 800 or so dealerships nationwide. Some have bailed as part of that plan but many others have closed due to simple economics. There's no money in new vehicle sales these days. With that, take a look at some of your local dealers, they probably have a huge used car/truck inventory and only a handfull of new ones.

I read Automotive News and this all has been rehashed so many times in that publication it's not funny. Good publication, but costs too much to subscribe.

It's not just Ford. I used to work for the Goodson dealership chain in Houston. When United Auto Group bought them up in, I guess it was 2000, there was...

Goodson Honda North.
Goodson Honda West.
Goodson Pontiac / GMC.
Goodson Dodge
Goodson Chyrsler / Jeep.

They currently have...

Goodson Honda North.
Goodson Honda West...

Champion group dealerships are experiencing the same thing...

Dealerships have had a decided corporate shift over the years, and the dealership corporations are having a tough time with their bloat making a good run of it...

I am not sure about total # of dealerships, I do know that a small dealership in Clear Lake Texas closed down, and two larger dealerships expanded...

Looks like consolidation to me. The dealers are way bigger and concentrated in auto malls. Power Ford, Nissan, etc. around here. Just like dealers for bikes and atv's, all are now big enterprises, instead of smaller owned. Seriously, how many do we need anyway? They 'claim' to compete against each other, but not really. Every 5 miles or so on the freeway here is another auto mall.

what dealer ships are opening in Pascagoula and Irvington

Pascagoula has Estabrook Ford/Nissan/toyota/Lincoln Mercury

Irvington is kind of out of the way, 15 miles west of Mobile in a rural area

Last time I was down there it struck me as a truck shop with extra tall doors on all bays

or elase a truck stop and they had not repared the parking area yet

GM and Ford are both consolidating dealers. Its horrible for me since I work for a supplier to Ford and GM dealers. In the last few months we have lost 1 ford dealer and 6 diffrent GM dealers to closers or mergers. With GM most of the Buick, Pontiac and GMC are now in one building. It cut our customer base down a bit, but there is still enough large dealers around here like Mike Bass Ford and John Lance Ford that buy such huge volume that its not hurting us so bad.

I read on autoblog last year that the Big 3 ran over 15,000 dealerships while the Japs had lest than 5,000.

That's a lot of overhead.

Here's a thought: far fewer dealerships selling more cars/trucks at lower prices.

The big Ford dealer in town closed this week. That wasn't what I was expecting by any means, and it kinda worries me 'cause it just as easily could have been the dealer I work at.

There haven't been any dealerships closing around here lately, but in the last 4 years there has been a few. And 2 expanded.

O'Hearn Ford closed their doors, the owner (who is a great family friend) retired and moved to N.C. to be close to his son who works for Roush Racing.

Dahl Automotive started another Ford dealership only 5 miles from there main Ford dealer.

Valley View Ford was bought out by Dahl (Ford) Automotive, Valley Views building is now being used as a detail and service shop by Dahl.

Underdahl Toyota and Underdahl Chevy now are at one location.

Chrysler Corner bought the Toyota lot and is remodeling the entire building and lot.

Ladsten Chevy was bought out and closed up shop.

This is just the beginning of a struggling economy.
