I received a CB Radio today as a Christmas present, and I need some general tips on using the thing like a pro! From, Where to put the antenna, to "Lingo," lets hear it!

(And yes, I searched)

Here's the biggest tip I can give you:

Just because you *can* talk on the radio, doesn't mean you should.

I might talk on the cb one minute out of every hour mine is turned on. There are plenty of "ratchet jaws" out there who talk and talk and talk...just listen to the conversations, and you'll know the location of every state trooper, car accident, road obstruction, and every other dang thing (heard a guy giving a peach pie recipe the other day)...

My Radio has a PA hookup, Does anyone know if this one will work?

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search

**edit** from looking at the reviews, I would say yes!

Ok, another question, when a PA speaker is hooked up, can I adjust the volume output?

Depends on what radio you have. On my Cobra 29 LTD, yes. On my brothers Cobra 19, no.

ETA: For tuning the antenna, you've gotta tune the SWR to 1 - 1.5. My radio has a SWR gauge so its easy. Others need an aftermarket in line SWR gauge. Or have the CB shop tune it for you.

This is so true, I usually only speak to request specific information. Other than that just listen, here in Houston it is better than Jerry Springer

My favorite is the "did you see the (insert body part here) on the (insert hair color) in the (insert car here)? Although, the "lot lizzards" advertising at the big truck stops are pretty funny.

The CB antena should be located as close to the "center" of the vehicle as possible for uniform output of signal. That's a big 10-4 good buddy, catch you on the flip side. ranger81 on the side....

I got my Cobra 19 hooked up tonight, using this antenna. I have so much interference its not even funny. From Turning my heat up to rolling my windows down "BUZZZZ!!!" I am about 4 miles from a major highway, and couldnt get anything on channel 19. Help ME!!!! My antenna is on top of my truck in case that wasnt obvious.

I'm not big on the cb or antenna because we only use them for offroading. But the antenna you have there looks like the one we had used to have and it is a POS. I would sugest a bigger antenna that you mount somewhere.

You've got a really bad ground... Also, I'd recommend a better antenna.

Buy a Wilson tuneable. They make one now as flexible as a metal whip and just as powerful. I have one on my Tri-Axle and my pickup no problems
