GPS system for a laptop... ***Help***

Need your help, I'm looking for a GPS system that can be loaded on a laptop. I've seen them before and the ones I have seen had a small antenna you put on the roof of your car.

Anyone have something like this or know where I can get something?

My mom got one with her Dell. The fact that she has one is about as much as I know about it.

Most electronics store's should carry them. Best Buy, Staples, etc.

I had a nice bluetooth one I got somewhere online. It worked well, no wires and I could use it with my laptop or pda. Too bad I left it in either my hotel room or rental car and someone wasn't honest enough to turn it in.

One nice thing with bluetooth was that I used it on my motorcycle and had the pda in my tankbag map pocket. It could be paired with more than one pda so if my buddy could keep up with me and stay in range of the bluetooth, then he had our location on his pda as well.

I have a earthmate USB GPS receiver I use with Microsoft Streets and Trips. Course now some versions of Streets and Trips comes with a USB GPS receiver for like $99. I've used it with several other map programs as well. They work really good but a bit cumbersome trying to watch and listen to a laptop while driving. I'd just put the antenna on the dash and the laptop in the passengers seat. I rarely use it any more unless I'm going to be in someone else's car.

Find GLC, he uses a laptop and a GPS antenna that plugs into the USB and some software in his truck. Think the whole set up cost $100ish.

I think thats exactly what GLC has...... he sent me all the info I was thinking about it too. I use mapquest everyday for work and occasionally it's wrong. Nothing worse than being in a town you don't know looking for a street mapquest says is there, thats not really there, it never even existed, then you end up somewhere in a part of town that white guys in pick up trucks aren't appreciated...... and all you have is a piece of paper with turn by turn directions of your planned route that wants you to drive through a house...............
So you start driving in circles getting broader and broader each time around until you see a road name that is listed on your route... then figure out what pat of the road you are coming in on, to know which direction your entering it in correspondence to the directions.... you got a 50/50 shot, but doesn't matter Murphys law says you'll pick the wrong one....

I use Microsoft Streets & Trips and a generic USB GPS receiver. You can buy a complete kit with the GPS and software, Microsoft and DeLorme are the best.

I've been using this program for several years now for my job (locating odd ball sites) and it's been absolutely fantastic. They have a kit that comes with the receiver for about $100 and it's commonly located at BB/CC/and other electronics retailers. Plus, I've seen it online for sub $80 (might check pricegrabber).

I love it. It works just like it should and is simplistic enough to be functional yet detailed enough to get down to some nitty-gritty when and where-needed.

On a scale of 1-10, it'll get a solid 9.5 in my book.
