Quad question ...
I am considering getting myself a toy. I would like a quad. This will be my first, and not really sure what I should look for and avoid. I won't need it to do any work, purely fun. I know of a couple motocross tracks in my area that allow ATV's and there are trails in the area that I would love to rip around on. So I am looking for preliminary help. What size engine do I need for this type of use, how old is too old, that type of stuff. Let me have it ... Thanks.
there was a discussion on here a little while ago about this, but if your doing trail or track riding you probably wanna go with a sport bike i would reccomend checking out the honda 400ex and 450r or yamaha yfz450 or raptor
im a honda guy myself and there is no such thing as too old for sport quads i have 2 1986 honda trx250r's freakin fast but you will want a 4 stroke honda is the most reliable and cheapest quad to build up the 400ex is a proven quad on the track as well as the new 450rs they cant beat built up easilly and cheap they r light and fast you would not be disappointed other excellent quads ar the suzuki z400 and the new king of the atv sport currently the ltr450r expensive but track proven an dstock with many aftermarket parts. ive been ridin since i could walk so any questions let me know dont get a shaft driven quad like 250ex 400ex is air cooled but it works and keeps the front end light the 400ex and 450r have soooo mnay aftermarket parts available right now its crazy any more questions let me know quads are what i live for hence the name doitonall4s cuz quad riders do it on all 4s

I don't ride quads but I've heard nothing but good stuff about those bikes. And don't go any older than 2-3 years. Most intermediate to pro riders get a new bike every year or 2 so there are plenty to be had at very fair prices in very good condition.
Have fun riding a sport quad in the spring(Extreamly muddly and ice everywhere oh and snow) , winter (Snow lots of it) and fall (Snow lots of it). You'll get stuck every 3 inches. Just think hard on what you want. Most tracks are only open in the summer. There are tons of ATV trails open all year around.

I hear what your saying. One of my buddies (jeff) had a Honda 450 sport quad he rode with us all the time but when the trail gets deep mud mixed with water and ice he couldn't make it. We had to pull him across or had to turn around. Jeff eventually hated that bike and traded it in on a 4X4.
I understand if you live by the desert then a sport quad is what you want. But since this dude lives in Ontario a sport quad will old very fast.
For an all purpose sport quad, I'd suggest looking at the Honda 400ex and the Yamaha 700 Raptor. The Honda 450r, Yamaha YFZ450 and new Kawasaki 450 are more hardcore but still handle trail riding well.
