Biggest Icecicle Thread

I am about 40 miles west of Chicago and we are having some crazy weather just like the rest of the midwest. I was outside on my deck smoking a cig and noticed a pretty big icecicle forming on the gutter. I was thinking of mabey getting some light gage chain or even just some string and hanging it from the gutter so the water would trickle down that and help the icecicle on its way. I am on the second floor so this thing has the potential to get pretty huge. Right now I would say its like 10-12". So lets see what everyone has got.... Mabey this could be a contest kinda thing. Yep its Monday and I got nothing better to do.

The gutter will be ripped off long before that happens.

They look cool, but I just got new gutters at the beginning of the year. I don't want to see them on my house, because I don't want to see the gutters ripped off.

Mother nature always puts on a great show for us.

I live in a condo so gutters arent my problem. I will just have to dispose of the evidence before anyone sees it if/when it falls down. I already thought about the weight end, mabey I can rig up a some thing from the deck to kinda help hold it but I think it will fall before the gutter gets ripped off, thanks for the advice though.

I should have something to contribute in the morning. I've spied a few baby monster growning on the kids play house.

Well I went looking around the house for some thread but I found some thing better, wire used to hang picture frames and mirrors. And than I thought about the weight thing again. The deck can hold some more weight so I figure what the hell lets bring the icecicle to the deck The gutter is hanging out about 14" from the deck so this should be one crazy big sideways icecicle by tomarrow, I would say it has about 3ft to go before it hits the deck.

1/2 hr later...What have I created muhahaha. The whole line is about 1/8 inch thick with ice. Depending on how big it is in the morning I might wuss out and cut the line, I'm not looking for trouble, just doing a controlled expieriment officer.

Too much time on your hands??

I try to avoid huge icicles hanging off any part of my house as the weight can be damaging and I own the house, no landlord to call when the repairs are due

All our snow and ice just melted, so you'll have to wait till I can have something to compete with later on.

yea same here, patchy ice and ice all over the trees but the streets and pavement are currently melting. But the weather just said a massive cold front is pushing down from the north west. So we'll all be back in the thick of it soon enough.
