Can Recycling Questions..

Ok... I've got like boxes and boxes of cans... like beer cans, soda cans etc... Basically anything that has a NY 5 cent deposit on it. It would take me my trailer and the whole bed of my truck to get rid of is what I am saying. That's how many cans I've got. Who knows, it might take me two trips. So going to Wally World is out of the question!

I've talked to about 8 redemption centers and they all told me that they will sort and take only name brand cans. Like Bud cans, Pepsi/Coke cans... etc. None of the Sam's Choice, or the offbrand cans, that I paid NY my 5 cents. Talk about a rip off, eh?

However, I've got a friend who owns a scrap metal joint... been taking stuff there for years and years... I probably made like $10k off of him in the past 2 years... He was telling me that he could get me clean aluminum price for them... but he warned me that I might get more money if I did do the 5 cent redemption... Because he'd be doing it off of the weight of the soda cans.

Kinda leaves me stumped... I want to go the route with just giving them to my friend, no questions asked...

Anyone dealt with this type of stuff?

Why not take the name brand stuff to the $.05 guys, and take the no-name cans to the scrap yard?

I might consider that...

I'm not going to worry about it until the Spring anyhow... by then I'll have probably 3 truck loads of cans...

All my friends give me their cans/bottles from parties, most of which I don't even go to... they don't realize how much $$ they are giving me. Their excuse is, "Oh, they are nasty after someone drinks out of them..."

I don't care... I live the down and dirty life...

We don't have the deposit on our cans so people just crush them and get the scrap value for them.
I have noticed that some sates give 10¢ per can so you should drive to one of them states when you have a full load.

I know Michigan has it at 10 cents... but I've heard and read that it was illegal to do things like that.

I might just get rid of all of them at my friend's scrap yard...

Exactly my point. Thanks Zaairman.

I think I'll separate them out by brand. A lot of work... but who cares...

F that. Take all of them to the picky bitches. If they want to pay less for the no names, they can separate it for you.
