Why does MTV suck? (A short explanation for those too young to REALLY understand.)

Seems to me I remember a show called "In Concert" or something like that where they synced the audio over an FM station. You'd watch the video of...say...ELP, turn the TV audio off and tune in the FM station so you could enjoy good quality audio from your stereo system. Anyone else remember this?

I began watching MTV in the mid to late 80's when all they played was GNR, Poison, Def Leppard, etc. MTV was awesome and was 95% music videos. I loved the music and MTV back then
As mentioned, MTV sucks so bad now (and has since the 90's) it shouldn't even be called MTV. All those stupid shows and all the rap and hip hop g-thug BS has ruined it.

6 pages of posts, and no one mentioned the show '120 minutes'.
think it was on midnight - 2 a.m. on sunday nights.
thats where i first heard of the hoodoo gurus way back in the mid 80's.
that was the greatest music show ever.

I tried to find them on DVD but no good result.
My favorite line was when Neil told ***** that there was way to perform self crucifixion. There was no way to hammer in the last nail and he tried it hundreds of time.
Oh hell, they are on YouTube !
Looked on ebay and now they are on it. Must have been alog time ago when I looked. Wow I am old.

Don't know if the show was national or not, but it was big in Lost Angeles when I was growing up.
The Groovy Show.
They filmed it at "Groovy Beach" which was Santa Monica Beach, right next to POP (the old Pacific Ocean Park which was on Santa Monica Pier)
We went to a show once. They literally filmed it ON the beach. The musical guest that day was Strawberry Alarm Clock and the song they did was "Incense and Peppermints", naturally, a medley of their hit, as it were.
Also cool (or should I say Groovy) on that day was that we saw Wilt Chamberlain playing beach volleyball.
Now THOSE were the good old days.
That's a raise to your Midnight Special, Raoul.
