This used to be God's country...
as a business owner let me give you my take
#1 i do not hire illegals, i have to much to lose and the jobs i have require either skill or long term training
i have 18 employees, of the 18, 16 are hispanic, why? you tell me. the wages i pay are typically $10 an hour if you have no skill and totally green. i have some that i pay as much as $17 an hour and the rest fall between.
my empoyees stay a long time, i have 3 that have been with me 10 years plus. i have another 7 that are at the 5 year mark.
i recently ran an add for a shipping and receiving clerk. the only people that applied that werent job hoppers were hispanic.
i ended up hiring a guy for $11.50 an hour and i give 5 hours a week over time.
i look at the job market like a pyramid scheme. in order for everyone to move up and advance, someone has to come in a fill the bottom positions. in the past where do you think these people come from? 20 years ago , my dad used to hire high school student and college students. we just havent had any luck with that in the past 10 year, this may be due to the fact that business has been very good and we just dont have time to work around their scheduals.
i will say that we should make the process so that there is a back ground check, a probation period and a limit on who can come in. people that hire illegals should have steep fines. the jackA$$es in washington will never all agree.
