Lcd Tv
Lcd Tv
From talking around I have heard that samsung makes a good lcd tv. I am wanting to spend around $2k and i am looking at a 4661.
for a little more i could get a 4665, but it measures 3" wider making it a tight fit for were I want to put it.
difference is the contrast ration 10000:1 for the 4661 and 15000:1 for the 4665. seems like samsung has the highest contrast ratios, how important is this number?
i like the lcd, i have had a sony for 4 years and i love the piucture, also the kids (and me) will use the playstation 3 on this tv.
does anyone have either or another suggestion?

Well the problem is the contrast ratio numbers are not regulated and really are bogus. So, in theory, the better contrast ratio sure would be nice, but a lot of reviews show for example that a TV that claims a 10,000 to 1 ratio really has something on the order of 1,500 to 1. That said, the TV with the 15,000 to 1 ratio *probably* has a better contrast ration.
Other than that, are you specifically looking for a flat panel LCD? Or projection LCD? Samsung is really most respected for their DLP and projection LCD. IMO, the TVs aren't bad, but they always look dark to me unless you have the PERFECT viewing angle.

i need it flat up against the wall (flat panel). i believe the tv is 4.2" thick. i have been told that the lcd does better in a room were glare could be an issue.
it is going in a room with widows from floor to ceiling and 20ft tall ceilings. the sun never directly shines in them, but the room has a lot of natural light.
i kind of figured that on the contrast, samsungs contrast numbers on average are much higher than others
also i am not a big extended warranty guy. 5 years for this one is around $450, i am thinking no, but i am open for suggestions.

If you want to stick to a $2000~ budget, I suggest you go with the new line LN-T4071F. It maybe smaller at 40" but you'll be picking up your jaw the first time you see it in person.
25,000:1 contrast, 120Hz and full 1920x1080 HD resolution. I'm a manager at Sears and we have it on display for $2399, but Best Buys has it on sale for $1699. Go to your local Sears, ask them to price match Best Buys and they will give you 10% off of the difference, which equals to about $70 off. Apply for a Sears card and make your purchase by Wednesday, we are having a promotion right now and get ANOTHER 10% off your purchase which makes this an incredible deal for probably the best HD LCDTV out right now, bar none.

BTW, who buys a TV from Sears?
my concern is that this is going in a large room, you will sit 12 to 15 ft from the tv. I am replacing a mistubishi 40" tube (all 250 # of it). on non hd channels the picture will be small with a 40".
the wall it is mounting on is at a 45 angle and is 51 long, i dont want to crowd it up , the 4661 is 43" wide, the 4665 is 46" wide.
what happened is a purchased the 4665 for $1999. when i got home and ready to install, the box says 4661, so since it is going back or getting discounted i am trying to figure what will work best.
