Chance of SNOW night before Thanksgiving!

Sure, it's a slight chance of only the smallest of amounts, but still . . . it will be the first time it has snowed where I live for about 30 years.

AWESOME!

-----

So far, biggest lesson I have learned after moving from the sunny shores of Lost Angeles to the Hinterland . . . LEAVES NEVER STOP FALLING, EVEN AFTER ALL OF THEM HAVE FALLEN. (Or, as I said in a different thread earlier, "Gravity. Works every time!")

I have trees, lots of them at my new house. Each tree has about one TRILLION leaves. I know this because I have raked them all.

Over, and over again.

You can dispose of them, but the ********s are back later in the day. My front porch (you have no idea how weird THAT concept is) keeps filling up with them every hour.

Leaves! Everywhere! It's like The Blob! Pretty soon those leaves are gonna eat my house and I'll be stuck in the basement (an even more bizarre concept . . . I have a house with a BASEMENT!)

Anyway . . . SNOW! AWESOME!

Winter is coming. Snow is coming. Oh yes it is!

Yo Dude -

Wasn't STL the second most unsafe town in the US in that recent poll? (It was at least in the five worst on the list).

We'll meet somewhere in the middle. It's safer.

As for the leaf blower . . . I've decided that doing anything with leaves is a waste of time. Yard is just going to fill up with them again by the end of the day. Then the wind moves the leaves from my yard to my neighbor's yard, and so on and so forth.

As for burning them, I'm in "town" (such as it is) and that would be a bad idea. Actually, while I have seen this burning of leaves, such a concept is insane to me. (I moved only days after the fires all around my home back home). I don't care how far out of town you are, burning is nuts. (That's my Los Angeles self speaking).

EAST St. Louis is the most dangerous place to be, and unless you wanna go to the "gentleman's clubs", we'd be far from them. Your leaf plan is the same as mine. Let em be. They'll just blow into a neighbors yard who spends all of their time raking them up. Burning them isn't as crazy as you'd think, just rake them into several large piles and throw a match on them. Keep them away from all trees. They burn out very quickly so there isn't much to worry about.

i dont understand why people rake at this time of the year here

theyll rake and rake, just to have their grass showing. 3 days later it's covered again. Why bother? It takes a long time and only temporarily heals. Just leave em there. Snow is around the corner, itll be covered soon!

I woke up to 3" of snow this morning. It was very unexpected but still fun driving in it.

This was last Wednesday on the way to Bonners Ferry. Just sunny and cold this week though.

Good luck with the snow Kobi...it's all very pretty and awesome and all but after a few seasons of snow removal, icy roads and bone numbing cold, you'll be less appreciative of the winter months!!

Oh and the leaf thing. My mom leaves hers on the ground and rakes them in the spring. They somewhat decompose during the winter months so you have less to rake come spring and the decomposing adds nutrients to your soil to help fertilize the grass.

I just talked to my mom this morning and she didn't mention snow, must not have been in town? We haven't had any here yet, they just keep saying it on the news over and over again...I suppose eventually it will be true!!

In all honesty, I doubt it will take "a few seasons". While it all looks quite lovely in pix, I'm guessing the reality of driving around with salt on the roads, having to shovel snow and scrape ice off my windshield will make the otherwise scenic beauty that is the snow, much less enchanting. I estimate that after only a few days of the reality of it will temper my enthusiasm.

However, for now, I can only recall my childhood memories, when snow was fun and required no work of one so young. Therefore, with only the experience of my youth to inform me I will continue to look forward with great anticipation.

It will probably just rain.

The childhood memories are wonderful because, like you said, one is required to do no work!! Lots of snowmen, snow angels and many hours sledding and so on...

I enjoy the first few snowfalls of the season. It's so beautiful. But when February rolls around and there's 4-5 feet of snow on the ground and you get 2 more feet overnight and you're quickly running out of anyplace to shovel it too and it's -15° and you can't breath the air because it burns your lungs and your tears freeze your eyelashes together and you can't start your car because it's so damn cold the battery conked out and when you do get it started you get stuck in the snowbank because you skid off the road and the weight of the snow and ice pulls the power lines down so you have no electricity and your water pipes freeze and break so your basement becomes a skating rink and you are just plain sick to death of dealing with it...that's when it gets old!!

Enjoy!!

It's snowing here right now. So far just a dusting. It's supposed to turn to rain later. Damn this global warming!

Oh, and by the way leave blowers=larger carbon foot print. A hand rake is the "envriomentally friendly" way to gather up those leaves. You don't want to make the planet more sick than it already is, do you?

I'm happy for you kobi, moving meant different 'issues' but these sound more wholesome.

Go for the most powerful electric blower you can find.
They lose umpfh with a long cord but, 150 foot cord is a 300 foot circle around the house you don't rake and there is no small gas motor to maintain.

I use and electric and two styles of rake to get the job done.
They recycle leaves here.

This type rake ie great:

(Couldn't find a large head pic), grabs it all and when the teeth clog with leaves after a few passes, just flip it over, make one pass upside down and it's clean. Very efficient.
