Smile New here

Just found the forum while looking for some info on the ford trucks
I have owned some of the older ford trucks but would like some info on the newer ones.
I am looking at a 2000 XL 150 reg. cab 4x4 with a 4.2 v6 auto, and A/C and a few other options but not many. I have been reading the posts on here and have to ask is the tranny in these trucks the week link? I am hoping that it would be as good as the older ones I had(1976, 1977 and 1978)
The 2000 I am looking at has 19000 miles (yes that is correct 19000) and no rust any where, it works and drives like a new one and still has the original tires on it and got to sleep in a heated garage at night.
If I buy this truck and do all the regular maint. on it do I have to worry about the tranny letting me down somewhere or other major problems?
Is the truck worth much more because of the miles and what would be a good price for it?
I would like to hear all the good and bad before I buy it.
Thanks

The auto transmission in that truck is very stout. I had 125K on my 4R70W when I sold it, and it's still going strong, and that was behind a modded V-8.

Yes the truck is worth more because of the low miles. I don't know how much more, check out Kelly Blue Book for an estimate of value. With those low miles your tranny should hold out fine. I have a 2000 with the V8, I've got about 42,000 miles on it and not a single issue with the tranny. My dad had a '97 F150 work truck with over 150,000 miles, as far as I know he never had any transmission issues.

I agree, make sure you keep up with the regular maint. It will run forever.

My truck did however have the tranny go out, but, that was due to, TOO MUCH NEGLECT, by the previous owner. I have 180k on my 98. You always get out of them what you put in them, I believe.

And welcome to the site!

Thanks for the welcome and all the info, I guess my fear came from three of these trucks that are close by to me all had the trannys go or at least had major problems with them$$$
One of them won't shift till it hits about 2000 on the tack

I just don't want to buy it and wait for the tranny to die(already been there and done that and don't want it again)
I have always liked the fords and maybe this will make me a good truck......think I will go and have another look

My 2000 XLT has 114K miles getting ready to be 115K probably this week.
And I drive it like I stole it. Friends and co workers tell me I dont need a gas peddal, I need an on off switch. Becasue most everytime I take off it's floored. Also I overload the truck often, and it's often pulling something.....
I use and drive my truck hard and it's not showing any signs of tranny weakness yet. So you've got atleast 95K miles left in that one.
