Used Land Rover?

Looking for an SUV for the wife. I want to spoil her 'cause she's been a good girl. What do you guys know about LandRovers? Reliable? Expensive repiars? Whatever you've heard will help. Also looking at the Lexus SUV's. Thanks

By a Ford SUV.... Don't even look at Lexus SUV's, there just POS Toyotas with a different name and made with chop sticks. By a real American SUV! Ford Explorers are nice for a SUV.

Better yet, why don't you let HER decide? She is going to be the one driving it everyday right? Ler her decide within your range of acceptance and then go for it. I just bought my wife a new crossover, and I fought like hell to get the FORD EDGE, but in the end we got a Mazda CX-7. Not my pick, but I can live with it. Good luck to you.

Land Rover's have a very bad record for reliability, at least for what they sell here.. They're absolutely the best for taking off-road as far as the capabilities.. reliability is very suspect tho.. They consistently are at the top of the JD Power list of vehicles needing repairs..

Nice interiors and amenities, just break down a lot.

Get your honey an Eddie Bauer Expedition..

I guess the mountianeer is also a viable option. After all it's just a hyped up Exploder. Ill have to admit the rockers that flip down into steps are sweeeet.

X2...

I'd lean more towards the Explorer side over the LR's. My buddy's GF snared a very nice looking used one... she had a BUNCH of problems. According to the dealership - who apparently really tried to take care of her - this wasn't uncommon at all.

I'd definitely research it extensively before jumping in head first -- the pool may be shallow.

If you get the Land Rover, find yourself a good repair shop. You'll get to know them very well. OR you could take it to the dealer and pay for it twice with the repair costs.

Not a user friendly truck, mechanical nightmare.

If she wants a Lexus, get her a Lexus. You can do a LOT worse. They are reliable.

x2. the lexus SUVs are based off of the Toyota land cruiser which are extremely reliable vehicles. My neighbor has a lexus fullsize SUV, and my dad previously owned a landcruiser that didnt give us any problems.

Well, that's true of the LX. The RX is more of a crossover. It's still reliable.

Sorry for the long response...
As the owner of a 2001 Range Rover, I can honestly say, UNLESS you have a friend who owns an independent Land Rover repair facility DO NOT BUY a Land Rover out of warranty!!! If you buy a new one, it helps to live near or work near a Land Rover dealership. You will visit that place a lot. It is never a BIG thing (mine has never left me stranded) but it is a sensor here, a sensor there or an air leak hear and then an air leak there (Air suspension). It will drive you crazy!!! For example two weeks ago the Service Engine Soon light comes on and does not go off. So I drive 30 miles to an independent shop and the code reader picks up that the Left Bank Lean occurred. OK, thanks a lot ... that code could be numerous issues and I could start throwing parts at it and it MIGHT fix the problem... I had him reset the code and it took about a week until the light is back on. SOOO back to the shop...

Last year I spent ~5,000 on repairs. This year has been very quiet. (KNOCK ON WOOD!!!) I am willing to spend an average of 2,000 a year on repairs before I say that is enough and have the RR disappear. Right now I am averaging 1,700. But I can say it is the best SUV I have ever driven... It is about the size of an Explorer but it weighs twice as much.

Resale value on a Land Rover is terrible!!! If that is a concern buy the Lexus!!! I bought my wife a Lexus LS430 and she loves it. We have three boys and wondered if she would like driving a sedan. This is after driving a Honda Van, Expedition, and a Pacifica. She drove the RR for a few months until I looked at the miles she was having to drive. (Probably part of the reason why I had to spend $5,000 last year!!!) She cursed that ride daily for one reason or another.

Good luck!!!
