"Vato (pronounced Bato) is a Mexican slang equivalent to "man", "dude", pal, or brother."
There are thousands of words in the English language, slang or not, that can be turned into can be a derogatory term - I was stating what it most commonly translated to in the Spanish-speaking community. So TX boy, easy on the bs flying out of your mouth
Glad I could help

I dont call them that, but its what they call each other. Same goes with "Vato". Do whatchya want, say what you want. Just dont cry when you find out Wikipedia is run by Yankees...
JDitta is whom wanted to know what it meant. Guessing by all the "bros" crap on this forum lately, I can only assume that Crazed was meaning it in a more brotherly form (which I translated it to). I'm just going to drop this because it seems I am nothing more than a "WI boy" who is going to call a Mexican some slur and get gang-banged all because Wikipedia is run by Yanks... or something like that
BTW wiki (wether run by yanks or not) has become more and more popular as a tool of reference. Especially in this case where 'vato' isn't a word that would appear in a standard English dictionary. But, then again, some people are always right and assume that the Earth is in fact flat...
