Tree huggers are the hippies of the 21st century. I'd guess that most tree huggers had hippies for parents.

You're probably right although my parents were no where near hippies.... but then again, I'm not sure I really consider myself a "tree hugger". I do recycle and I am slowly turning my house "green" but is that a tree hugger?

Green living isn't tree hugging, it's responsible. Tree huggers want us to live pre industrialized.

Tree Hugger, Hippie, and Environmentalist all get grouped together way too often. If you talk to the oil companies, you'll find they are all environmentalists. They believe in the conservation of the environment where possible, and they have major programs to return nature to as good, if not better than what was originally there before they drill. Historically some companies have been negligent, however this is not the case today. They are not hippies, hippies believe in a more socialist society. Few are tree huggers, tree huggers typically place plant and animal value equal to that of humans.

So I have a question.... where are we with the corn fuel stuff. What the hell's it called..... Ethanol. Yea, that's it. So why aren't we growing more corn and using that as fuel? Anyone know what's the deal there?

And btw, anyone know where I can get a biodiesel home setup for cheap? They're damned expensive but I'm not even sure I'd be able to find any restaurant to donate their used oil. You know these damn restrictions in CA.

Ethanol is a crock. It's takes more energy to grow it, harvest it, transport it, refine it, mix it, transport it again... Plus, it is no where near as efficient as pure crude gas. Ethanol is also subsidized by the government.

I hear China will be soon drilling off the coast of Cuba soon. How fitting that we can't drill off our own coasts.

Plus food prices have already risen as a result of just a little ethanol production. Not beneficial by any stretch of the imagination.

Hydrogen fuel cell technlogy is the only way to go. Screw this ethanol hype.

Yeah, my protein bags have went from 60 dollars to 80 dollars instantly.

More corn used for fuel means less corn for the cows, so the cow feed becomes more expensive thus making milk more expensive, thus making the protein powder more expensive

Just one example

Also leads to higher prices for bread and such since more land is being used for corn and less for grains.

Additionally, I saw a statistic (I know they are usually bogus), that said if we were to use all available farm land in the US for raisng corn, simply for the production of ethanol, we'd have enough ethanol to last the country for only a couple days.
I don't remember where I saw it, and I'm too lazy to take a look right now.
