My wife said there's a funnier one with the jogger, but I haven't seen it yet.

Which used the same platform as the Malibu. There's no way they would show a prior generation Malibu and claim it as so boring as to be essentially invisible . . . they are still trying to sell all the ones still left on the lots. Best to use a brand that no longer exists and a model no one would remember. Interesting though, that they would use a GM product when they could have used their competition, a Camry or Accord.
The jogger spot is not as funny as the bank robber spot, IMHO. With regard to the jogger spot however, the "multi-part" jogger spot is funnier than the shorter version of it. (You'll see).
As for the Malibu being a POS, you could certainly say that of earlier incarnations, especially the most recent, but this Malibu is an entirely different vehicle. It's based on the Saturn Aura which has received almost entirely positive reviews. From all that I've heard, it's impressive for the class that it's in. And it needs to be. Yes, GM has come a long way (although based on how bad their stuff was that isn't saying much). However, they really have gotten their act together.
As for the commercials, Campbell-Ewald did them. Are they good car commercials . . . debatable, but they do bring a chuckle. Ultimately the car will speak for itself . . . or it won't.

Haha, love that comercial. Laugh at it every time.
I noticed it wasnt an actual Malibu too, but it looks pretty darn close to one. I dont think it would have been as good with a different car, like a Toyota or something. That would kind of be changing what they are trying to say.
I like how they can come out and knock themselves a little like "Hey, yeah, this car used be to boring, but look at it NOW"
