1080p is the best picture and is available via PS3, Blu-Ray & HD-DVD movies. But broadcast TV & DirecTV only send out a 1080i signal.

For electronics, IMHO, the service plans are a waste of money. Usually electronics are going to go bad fairly early if they are going to go bad.
As far as the bulbs on a DLP, yes they are expensive, $2-300, but usually are rated to last at around 10,000 hours. And in most cases, you can change them out yourself, no service call required, just the cost of the bulb.

I'm not sure about this but I thought SD TV had a signal of 420i, while Hi DEF Sat TV (Like DirecTV) broadcast at 720 i or p.

I know currently the only way to watch anything in true 1080p is on a 1080p set connected to a Blu-Ray player, and watching a Blu-Ray movie.

Regards

It depends upon the station. Some do transmit in 1080i. Directv is 1080i. Receiver output can be set lower though.

I'm not to sure about the brand if its good or not. You might want to check prices on sony or philips. If I'm not mistaken I think sony has a 71" model not sure on the price though.

Or if your happy with what you saw in the store just get it and buy the service plan to be safe cause thats a good price for warranty.

I agree that a few of them don't look that great... just my opinion. Versus a LCD, there's no comparison but, then again, there's no comparison on the price the other way...

I really like mine -- I just don't like the occasional 'screen scramble' when there's a LOT of movement at a fast pace.

Nascar in HD is kind of cool (even though I'm not a Nascar fan) but, it defintely scrambles because of the fast pace....

FWIW, I have a Samsung 1080p w/ DLP (whispers - it's the mirrors).
