Speaking of FIRE....holy crap!
highways closed.... so may have to use or create your own alternate route....
may need to haul as many valuables as you can fit......
Hands down I'd grab the rover and stuff it full, leaving room for some food and water. It might not make it out un-totaled either if you have to extreme 4x4 just to get out. But if you and family survive, it's worth destroying any car to live.

Well, the time has apparently come: I'm in mandatory evac area...they are ordering this for a simply MASSIVE area starting probably 15 miles inland clear to the ocean. This is some of most expensive residential and commercial real estate in San Diego...
man, if this fire actually gets here this fire is going to go down in history for sure. Time to finish packing up the Range Rover.

Check out the .pdf on the link above for a map of the active fires in California. It's a big file, but you can zoom in on SoCal.
Red and orange are active, yellow are others that have burned since 01/01/07.
To give you an idea of scale, the big yellow area north of Santa Barbara was the Zaca Fire. It did not burn many buildings, but raged for months and was one of the largest fires (in terms of acreage) in CA history. It burned just over 240,000 acres (approx. 375 square miles). Some of these new fires are getting very large, also.
I hope everybody is safe and sound.

I got word that my house was fine but other homes around me are burnt to the ground.

Good luck Lumadar and everyone else in the path of the fires. Pretty scary stuff.
