Naw you can take the exhaust headers off and take the entire intake plum off and it still won't get any more air than what the throttle body and intake valves let it have. Even at WOT it is still restriced by the size of the throttle body throat and metered by the intake valves. Even with a slightly bigger Throttle body it will still be with in the parameter of a stock tune and still restricted by the intake valves.

Now if you put on a new heads with bigger valves, or (and/or) forced induction (blower or turbo) then you would need a new tune.

You will be coming right threw my neck of the woods then.

IDK If you have done that drive many times but when you get between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa slow the F down right near the Mercedes plant or the popo will nail your ***.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I do it for you guys.

Update on the mods:
The wife talked me into the Intake PLUS custom tuning. Sorry Troyer and Fans It only worked with VMP. I can have it installed for the long trip back to MD. So, I'll have the basics: intake, exhaust, custom tuning and BFG ATs by the time I ever see the truck(well, you know)

I've never made that drive east of AL. I've only come fromTN. Is that stretch going down south to catch up with I10 or is that the northern route? Thanks for the advice though.

It's I20, so if you were going to DFW you would take that road and go straight for it.

Yeah, I'm heading down south, so I'm coming in around Houston. Once I hit TX, I wanna be as close as possible. Plus, that's the route the almighty internet maps gave me.

I-20 goes through Dallas/Ft. Worth, I-10 goes through Houston.

Congrats on the new rig. I'm in the same boat as you. Will be coming stateside in a week or so. Why is your demob so quick? I'm going into Ft. Dix NJ for all the outprocessing and crap, we're expected to take up to 5 or 6 days. Be sure to look up for military dicounts for Active Duty/Veterans. I called up hottexhaust and have pn 16616 Maggie side exit dual exhaust for about $350 shipped. Got a couple of other deals for the S&B intake, Xcal2, HD grill, Hella blackout headlights, Elegante LED blacked out tails, and the truck itself, in MA we have a group purchasing program, and the MA Gaurd is part of it, I can get an '07 at dealer invoice, or an '08 at factory invoice (you can prolly guess what I'll be doing!).

As far as tuning goes, you actually do need a tuner for some intakes, especially the AF1 3.5" CAI. Most 3" systems will be fine though. Cat back exhaust does not require a custom tune. But speak to Justin at VMP. If you can get your hands on a wideband device or to a dyno center, you can get YOUR TRUCKS individual a/f ratio and not just what Ford has spec'd out for the 5.4L in general. That way he can "tweak" your tune a little more

Thanks for serving!

Ryan

Haha. No thank you, sir, for serving. AD only goes through CIF. I'm stickin' with the mods I got(for now). Getting a custom SIDO exhaust for $350, unless my dad can talk tham into a discount. Anyone know if VMP gives discounts? Yeah, I plan on calling him tomorrow at some point. Thanks for the advice. I usually do ask for a discount, but didn't think to in this case. Enjoy the trip home.

Thanks for the kind words. I asked Justin how much the Xcal2 with custom tunes is, mentioned I was military, and he gave me back a price of $399 shipped. I believe this is normal cost (they are offering free shipping right now), so there is no dicount from what I can tell. But it's still not a bad price. You get three custom tunes with it on top of the original stock tune. If you want more later, they offer a three pack of tunes for $125, or $50 for one. Goodluck with the Screw!

Nice ride man! Thanks for serving, my brother is over there now, looks like another 7 or so months for him. Make sure to take the truck for a spin stock so you can let us know how the programmer does. And although this is just my opinion I think the truck would look great with some factory step bars on it in chrome

Oh yes, the army loves to screw with us. Crap, I'd love to drive it stock, but the tight schedule they got me running on has me getting the exhaust and tires on before I get home. I'll get some runs with the exhaust, then add intake, then add Tunes. I ain't got time for dyno either, so we'll take my word for it. I'm NOT a fan of chrome. if it weren't for the ridiculous price tag, I'd have body color everything. I'd love to weld some steps of my own though.
