CR new reliability Ranking For Toyota

Think twice before trading your F150 For the Tundra

....The survey dropped Toyota from first to fifth place - behind Honda, Acura, Scion and Subaru - in average vehicle reliability. The rankings are based on average predicted reliability for all models sold under a given brand.

2007 Toyota Camry: Because of poor predicted reliability, V6-powered versions of the Toyota Camry are no longer recommended by Consumer Reports.

Brands made by Toyota Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. still dominate the rankings: Scion is Toyota's low-priced car brand and Acura is Honda's luxury car brand.

Consumer Reports said it no longer recommends V6 versions of Toyota's Camry or V8 versions of its Tundra pick-up because of poor reliability.

Nice! My F150 will never die with that pushrod industrial grade 4.2l v6...

Speaking of which, there is this fella that owns his own small flooring business, and we called him up to come over and give us a quote on some carpet in our foyer leading from the garage into the kitchen... but anyways, he's got a '99 F150, V6, 5 speed, 2wd, long bed, with 413k on the clock running strong. Replaced the clutch at 183k, and again at 398k... Original engine... just scheduled maintainance. He said he ain't getting rid of it for all the plastic in Japan!

413k, talking about a bulletproof engine. I did not know that you can go over 400k on a V6

Why wouldn't you be able to with good maintenance and minimal or no abuse?

Let's hope that Ford will not discontinue the 4.2L

They likely will. Ford is pushing the new 3.5 liter V6 because it has some great technology and puts outs 265 hp/tq~. That's a pretty solid punch for a V6!

Hopefully it is as reliable as the V6 line it will be replacing.

From what I saw in the paper today, Consumer Reports really raked Chrysler over the coals on reliability issues.....

Sorry my brother, as far as I know, the plant in town, EEP (Essex Engine Plant) is idling as of November this year. An engine that has this kind of track record? It's like the SBF, 1962 to 2001ish? All good things come to an end sooner or later.

That sucks, royally. Everyone wants that VVT, 24 valve this and that, dual over head cams, coil on plug... where it's revving at 4500 rpms... All in trade for reliability.

Personally, I'd trade some HP/TQ for some low end power of a reliable pushrod with the overhead valves, EDIS and 12 valves... jus' my opinion though.

Not to mention that the 4.2l v6 sounds really cool when I'm pushing 1800 to 2800 rpms... I also love it when people in high revving vehicles come up beside me when I'm doing my 800 rpms, and they need to do 2500 rpms just break it over a hill with a puny little car to keep up with me. When my truck sounds like it is idleing up the hill.

I've only driven 1, a 99 scab v6 auto and have to say it's a lot more ballzy than I thaught. Best part, it's basically a 5.0/5.8 with 2 less cylinders. I'm just curious what will replace it, probably the 4.0 that the stang have.

The worst part is that in killing off the 3.8/4.2, we lose about 1000 jobs locally, maybe forever.
