Totally devastated, lost my best companion

Hit by a car Wed 10 October 07 while my wife was taking her for a walk. Driver never even stopped. Words cannot describe how I'm going to miss this little Westie. She was such a great dog. She always greeted people with some sort of gift, a stick, leaf or a rock. Anything, she always had to pick up something to give. Not a mean bone in her. Life sucks so bad. God rest her soul. Sorry just had to vent.

I know how you feel. Just 3 wks ago today I had to put down my beloved cat McKenzie of 11 years. She had a rapid cancer from somewhere in her midsection that spread to her leg and foot, and after a couple of surgeries it was clear she would not survive. You get attached to them. They are like children. Sorry for your loss.

Cute lil girl.

I'd be hunting that car down.

I know how you feel. Lost my lab and best friend a few years back. I took it harder than I took my Uncle passing, I just sat in her favorite spot and cried for what seemed like hours. I get very very attached to my animials, they go camping with me, sleep in my bed and are around all the time. I am very very sorry to hear of your loss. The driver is a complete tool and I can only hope what goes around comes around.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I lost one of my 2 dogs last summer, she was hit by a car that didn't stop either. That just angers me to no end. We had adopted her from the Humane Society and she was scheduled to be put to sleep the day after we adopted her.

I do wish you the best during this difficult time. My sympathies.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I remember her picture from another thread. I know how it feels to lose a pet. My thoughts are with you.

Don't these people know it's illegal to drive on the sidewalk? I'm sorry for your loss and hope the cops catch this guy. He's a menace!

sorry for your loss. i hope you catch the driver.
i read this poem somewhere back in the day. its very touching.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I truly am sorry for your loss. My dog is my best friend and something like this should never happen. Although highly unlikely, I too hope you find out who did this to your dog and get some type of restitution for your suffering.

Thanks for all the kind words. And Harley, That was a great poem. Although it brought back many more tears, it gave me a warm feeling in my heart. At times when you feel the world is falling apart around you, You find someone who has something to hang on to. Thanks my Friend.

i know they say time heals all wounds, but we put down our first dog this past march, and it still hurts. he lived a good long life, but that didnt help me deal with the pain of the loss any better.

we have adopted another from a shelter, but there is a huge void where our first pup once was.

we are currently looking into picking up a second pound dog so we will have 2 again.

hang in there, it will become more bearable in the future, and maybe you can give another dog a good home in the future.

odin: if i am interperting your post right, its way out of line.

I will say a prayer for you and and your family. I love dogs---I have four of them---and here is something that brought me a little confort why I put my first one down a while ago.
