I've been trying to locate an old friend of mine from the service and haven't had much luck so far. I have his name, SSN, original home town and where he was in the late 80's. I'm trying to stay away from all these "pay" sites that promise to give you all the information you need.

Anyone have any ideas or know how I can locate him without paying a locator service?

I had to use one to find out where my ex-wife lived. She owes me over $53,000 in back child support. The State doesn't give that info out in a child support case, so I had to pay one of those sites for the info.

Actually, when we were overseas and/or at war, part of our mailing address was our SSN.

Thanks guys...all of those sites gave me the same basic information. If I want more I still have to pay for it. The White Pages didn't give me anything. I found an address so I was thinking of taking a shot in the dark and sending a letter and see if I get a response.

tell social security he's family, it's an emergency and they will forward a letter to thier last known address. They will not tell you anything but they will do that.
