That's a little before my time and I'm 52. You'd have to be in your 60's to be in that era.

You don't HAVE to be as old as I am to enjoy it! At least I didn't think so!

I remember watching Thunder Road at the drive-in 3 times. I had a 54 Ford Coupe in high school. Olds tail lights, modified grill, 57 Tbird engine, painted dark purple. So this brings back some great memories.

I'll be 52 this month and I don't remember it.

When I was young I rode a goat to school and it was uphill, both ways.

The goat or the path? The goat just had longer front legs than the rear.

It would be just like my dad to do that kind of mod. He didn't leave anything stock.

My dad's 73rd birthday was last month.
So, I'm making these reclining adirondack chairs and before I take one over to him I insure every bolt is tight, every edge smoothed and the paint is perfect.

He sits in it and says, "I guess I'll have to get a cushion for this."
.....

My father never bought a new car when I was a kid and the vehicles he would bring home are the stuff of legend.

His standard catch phrase to my mother was always, "It's brand new, secondhand, heavyduty, rebuilt."
(his favorites were former bread trucks by the way. Us kids thought they were the coolest, sliding doors and only one seat. Seatbelts? we ran around in the back, Even my mother had to sit on a five gallon bucket. This was decades before Chrysler thought of the minvan. The man was ahead of his time.)

I remember once when he 'got took' on a car deal.
He swore, "That's the last time I buy a car at night, in the dark, without starting it!"

My Dad would not buy a car that was wet with rain. Had to see it dry as the rain covered up a lot of paint blemishes and small dents. he learned that the hard way!

One of my Dad's favorite sayings was "It's amazing what a little lubrication can do." As I grew older I figured out he wasn't talking about 3in1 oil!

Alas, when I got my license we were driving Citations and Escorts, because by then, gas had become ridiculously expensive at $1.00 per gallon.......

Viewed from afar, I'd say the coolest automotive trend of that era would have to be Lake Pipes (except for the leg burns you undoubtedly got when you weren't paying attention?) and the dumbest would have to be Continental Kits (that era's equivalent of the guy today who buys every possible stick-on accessory from Leer and drives around town looking like a ****?)........
