As a kid I spent my allowancw on nails, went to college for commerce and accounting. Started a small business trucking, had a retail store and then wound up in construction, went contracting and many years, later I am now a construction superintendent building highrises etc..

You most likely will have many different careers. I personaly have the mandate a job must be financially rewarding and have any two of the three items, intresting, challenging or enjoyable.

I have friends that have been in the same job or industry for way to many years and they are bitterly unhappy.

cheers

Burnout

You can always tell the guys that are burnt out. They are in-effecient, and mediocre quality at best. I refuse to dread getting up to go to twork in the morning, as soon as I notice that I'm getting burnt out, time to change....... Money isnt that important, it's a nice bonus but better than wanting to shoot yourself, just so you don't have to go to work another day.......

I did 15 years in a federal SHU here, and we had several retired army folks come in after doing their 20 or whatever.

It worked out well for them because they went right to top pay scale, and collected their full army pension while earning a full salary as a CO...
Yea Habibi, he tried that route, applied at the sheriffs office to be a corrections officer in the county jail. Unfortunately we live in a small community with very slow turnover in any of the county offices, they aren't hiring right now. He just started a new job today, he's working at a fiber mill doing facilities maintenance and some fabrication. He's actually been wanting to get into facilities maintenance so I think this is going to work out well. Wish us luck!!

In my case, I took some classes in highschool that had to do with welding and it was so cool that I decided I wanted to be a welder.
For most of us though, we have to settle for whatever job we can find, rathar than holding out for a job doing something that we love.
At the end of the day, all that really matters is whether or not you can afford to pay your bills and have a little left over to have some fun with.
