Shellfish draws maggots!

Had an interesting experience this evening... after I got my belt on my Dak, I got a phone call from my friend who owns a restaurant, telling me to come down and take care of his maggot infestation...

So, I went down real quick, and sure enough, there were maggots all over the dumpster, parking lot, people's cars... pretty much everywhere. So what did I do? I went back home, and I got a pump sprayer, and went back over to the restaurant. I got some bleach, and I filled the sprayer up with pure bleach. Pumped it up, and started spraying the parking lot and dumpster. I even mixed a few buckets of water and bleach and dumped that in the dumpster. In about 2 hours they were gone.

I swear, in all my life, I've never, EVER seen such a thing... they were EVERYWHERE..

No... it started raining, as a storm was coming. So I am pretty sure his parking lot and everything looks like nothing even happened.

Anyhow, the amount of bleach in the dumpster should last him for a week or two as far as keeping bugs away.

That should be good for business. As a joke, he should serve rice with every order.

Sorry no pics, I couldn't get any because it was dark out. I can tell that winter is coming when there is no more daylight out at 7:45 pm...

However, they seemed to have crawled on to people's cars that were near the dumpster. Probably within a range of 50 feet from the dumpster.

How old were the shellfish? They couldn't have been fresh. That's disgusting!

I wonder if a carcus in the dumpster swelled up and exploded, kind of like a maggot grenade?

No... he threw them out earlier in the day, and since that stuff spoiled rapidly, it must have drawn the flies to lay eggs and since it was hot outside, it incubated the eggs rapidly and thus the maggots hatched rapidly.

If I was able to get some pictures of that, I would have sent them to Mike Roe's Dirty Jobs.... with a comment saying, "Look Mike, I did a job dirtier than yours!"

I thought that was awful quick to hatch, but checked on the incubation period. Was surprised to find that it is only 8-20 hours from the egg being laid.
