Question Power Window Question

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 98 F150 and my drivers side power window stopped working. I can hear a clicking down by the fuse/relay box. I removed Relay 4 (FOAB 14B192-AA) and the clicking stopped so I figured I would just buy a new one. Relay 5 is the same. Went to Checkers and they pulled one off the shelf and said, "try this, the schematic looks the same". I put it in and now the passengers window doesn't work now either. Without having to pay an arm/leg at the dealer can anyone point me in the right direction? I have checked the fuses as well and all are OK.

UPDATE - Replaced relays #4 and #5 and the windows still don't work. Can't imagine both motors went out at the same time. The side mirror controller and power locks work so why just the the window???

Have you checked thae powerdistribution box under the hood?
I belive there is also a fuse and or maybe short throw breaker and or relay for it in there. Dont know which number it might be with out looking in the manual though.

I checked and found a 30 amp (#25) fuse blown. Looked up and downloaded the manual for the 98 F150 and confirmed that this is for the power windows.

Will replace today and hope it works.

Thanks again.

Replaced the 30 amp (#24 in the Power Distribution Box) and it fixed the passenger side window. Driver side is still not working and I can hear and feel relay #4 (One Touch Power Relay) under the dash clicking when I try to roll the window down. I replaced it but still no go. What about #5 (Accessory Delay Relay) or maybe driver side motor is just shot?

Thanks again for your help.

If a relay clicks then it's probably working and it's definatly getting power.
Only thing to do would be to take a volt meter and check for power at the fuse (both sides) then work you way down the circuit to the motor. Could be a bad switch, could be a wire came loose..... could be anything.

You were correct, it was just a bad switch. I pulled the control box from the arm rest off and with a test light looked to see if I had power to the switches in both positions. They were fine so put it back together and when it popped it in I then tried the window and wouldn't you know it the darn thing worked. So took it back apart, disconnected the cables, sprayed some contact cleaner and checked connections and it is still working.

I plan on replacing it in the next few weeks to be safe.

Thanks again for your help.

No problem, glad it's fixed, I have had to do before and I hate haveing to open the door at a drive trhough or bank or anything because my window wont roll down. It's embarrasing.

I've been following this thread because its exactly the problem I'm having. I just spent $50 at the scrap yard for a new "used" motor and the new motor i put in doesn't go down either and I also have the clicks you have. Please describe in more detail what wires you pulled and how you cleaned them. Do I just spray the contact cleaner into the up/down button? Please help, I've been driving around for 3 months like this because I don't have money to have the shop fix it. Think I need to buy a new armrest set of controls? I tried that once already on ebay and it actually worked again for a few weeks and then died again like it is now dead. Thanks.

Matt

Matt

Thats the switch he is talking about.

Yours may be like his, yours may not be the switch it's self, may just be a dirty/bad connection on the plug contacts. Wghich would be why it worked for a little while when you installed the new switch it was getting contact for a little while. You may test your old switch with a volt meter or test light, it may still be good.

Go to the auto store and get a can of CRC Electronic cleaner,

Can looks like this....

Take the door panel off and unplug the window switch ("armrest set of controls") and clean both sides (the switch terminals and the plug) with the CRC Electronic Cleaner. Plug it back in, turn the key on and see if the window works.

How do you replace the switch terminal in the +04 F-150. Does it just pop out?
