mp3 conversion help...

I have a bunch of mp3's saved at 320kbps, and I want to dump them on my work PC, but don't have room. I just want to downsize them to 192kbps or even 128kbps, but not sure of any software that can do this.

any suggestions?

That should work. Personally, assuming your media player can support the file, I would change them to 120kbps .AAC files. Less space that it takes up, and better sound quality than a comparable bitrate MP3 file...

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

What you want to do is called transcoding. The linked software is not free. A freebie that can transcode a MP3 to a lower bitrate is CDEx.

ah, I remember a buddy telling me he "thought" CDEX would work, but he wasn't sure, and I couldn't remember the name... but I'm sure that's it.

If you already have software like Nero or Roxio, it should be able to do that.

I owuld use Audacity with the LAME plug in.

change bit rate, change format, cut, trim, alter, audio, add or delete sections, add effects, make ring tones, 100's of mp3s styles, 100's of wav styles. it's basically endless professinal audio editing with home user interface.

CDEx uses the same Lame codec as Audacity.
