Unless they're having the $20,000.00 derby. Then a few more people hit the ice. And yes, the parking lot is also on the lake. If I remember right, the year I took these pics it was -30*c in the morning. They pre-drilled 5000 holes for the derby. Biggest fish of the day took home 20,000.00 with prizes given for the next 124 places. I think there were about 2800 people there fishing 3000+ holes.

Those pics are from Pigeon Lake, Alberta a few years ago. It's an annual event. They now have it at Gull Lake. Only thing that sucks is they always seem to have it on the worst fishing spot on the lake. Some years you can sit there all day and not get a bite. The last one I went to only had 69 fish weighed in which isn't much compared to the number of anglers. You are not allowed to fish outside of the designated area.
They do give away all prizes though. If enough fish aren't caught they just start drawing for the rest of the prizes.

Any day fishing is better than a day at work The way I look at is, even if you don't catch any fish, you'll always catch a buzz

I have a few pics of some of the deep slush I went through with my F150 on Lake Simcoe I could post later if interested

Im out in front of Kempenfelt Bay. Its more Lake Trout there cause its so deep. Beaverton is awesome for Perch.

I don't have an ATV, and all the good spots are not within walking distance in the Beaverton area, are they?
For obvious reasons, I only drive the truck when conditions permit. Do they drive out from Beaverton? I've hit quite a few areas on Simcoe, but never Beaverton.

You can do ice hut rentals for fairly cheap and they take you out in a covered machine and drop you off and provide you with minows. There are whitefish there and lakers further out. You can only use ATV in the extreame cold if theres slush. Other then that you can stick to the path that the bombi's make from land to the ice huts. You can walk but the huts are about 2 to 5km out on the lake.

Yeah, that's what i thought. Last season I recall there being quite a few weeks that even ATV's couldn't get out, the slush was so deep. Only the sleds could make the venture.
BTW, I take all my own gear, including a heated portable shelter. I do it all on foot though, unless I can take the truck.
