Those with speeding ticket experience

My cousin got a ticket today for doing 97MPH in a 65MPH zone. Apparently he gunned it to merge onto the highway, while also going down hill, and that was when he got popped. The ticket doesn't have a price on it and says he has to go to court for it in a month. Have any of you ever got a ticket for 30+ MPH over the limit? What ended up being the outcome (i.e. hefty fine or license suspension)?

Most places I've seen, anything that's 26 or more MPH over the posted limit is wreckless driving. Here that get's you 6 points on your license (you can get 12 points total) and my insurance threatened to drop me before I had it reduced to speeding.

They hung my buddy out front of the town hall. He was only doing 86 in a 55. I still say he got the short end of the rope.

My buddy got stopped for doing 96 in a 55 Still makes me giggle when I think about it, I was right on his *** when it happened.

He just got a fairly large fine that I remember...No suspended driving or anything I know.

Im sure it would all vary state by state though.

97 to merge into a 65 lane? The judge will most likely laugh at his lame excuse and throw the book at him.

In Ohio your buddy would be looking at reckless op and have four points on his license. Traffic school and a possible lisence suspension. 97 in a 65 is a little too much for the judge to listen to and reason with, I would say...

This would also hike up his rates in the Buckeye state, as well...

Everywhere is going to be different and may even be different case by case.... here it aslo varys if it's city or state. City is more linenat and doesnt take as many points.

Here

VIOLATION .................................................. .............POINT VALUE
Speeding . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .3 points
Careless & Imprudent Driving . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .4 points
(Section 304.016.4, RSMo)
Knowingly Allowing an Unlicensed Driver to
Operate a Vehicle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .4 points
A Felony Involving a Motor Vehicle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .12 points
Obtaining a Driver License by Misrepresentation . . . .12 points
Operating a Vehicle With a Suspended or Revoked
Driver License . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .12 points

WHEN YOU HAVE FOUR OR MORE POINTS
If you accumulate a total of 4 points in 12 months, the Department of
Revenue will send you a point accumulation advisory.
If you accumulate a total of 8 or more points in 18 months, the Department
of Revenue will suspend your driving privilege.
• 1st suspension — 30 days
• 2nd suspension — 60 days
• 3rd or more suspensions — 90 days
The Department of Revenue will revoke your driving privilege for one year if
you accumulate:
• 12 or more points in 12 months
• 18 or more points in 24 months
• 24 or more points in 36 months

To reinstate your driving privilege for a point suspension or revocation you
must provide the following:
Non-alcohol related:
• Proof of insurance (SR-22) and
• $20 reinstatement fee

SR-22 is high risk insurance, not many insurance companies cover you and when they do, premiums are outrageuous. When I was on it, I was paying $300+ a month for full coverage on a 4year old, 4cyl s-10...... insurance was more than the truck payment.

Also note that if I'm not mistaken, here anything over 100 mph is a felony....... also if I'm not mistaken anything over 20 mph over the posted speed limit may also be considered a felony.... all off and on rammps are posted at 50 mph here as well. No one does it either way, but it is posted.

Ill tell you exactly what will happen since I have gotten 95 in a 55 in FL. It was on my way home from school in Tallahassee and i was on I-295 going around Jacksonville and all of a sudden it turned into a construction zone and dropped the limit 20 mph and bam a cop right there-no workers btw. It was back when I was 18 and was an idiot and ended up getting a $518 fine which I gave to a lawyer and ended up paying almost just as much in court costs plus lawyer fees. Bottom line-dont do it! Funny thing was he clocked me at 95 and my ranger I drove then wouldnt go any faster than 95-lol

i am in texas and got one going 24 over and it was about $300 including court cost but, it was about a month since i had my licences so that is why it was high? maybe i don't know. But i do know here if you are going anywhere over 24 mph you can't get it taken off your record and of course insurance will find out and make your monthly payment alot higher.

i got a ticket for 97 in a 55. it was out in the middle of nowhere. just sage brush and a long rode. cop was cool and reduced the ticket to 80 in a 55 cause my record was clean. he said it would be wreckless driving and about a $550 ticket. i ended up paying $235

the funny thing is that i saw a car coming at me and when it got closer i leaned forward and squinted my eyes asking myself "is that a cop" then whoosh as we flew passed each other. i pulled over before he was even behind me and just waited a couple seconds then he pulled right up behind me. just another good story now.

It's possible to "go downhill" in Florida?

I got a ticket for 78 in a 65 back in june and it was $165.. and I think every state anything more than 25 mph over the limit you can't do defensive driving to please your ins. co. It's reckless driving and unless you have a long, good history with your provider they're either gonna drop ya or raise the hell outta your rates. Just the way it goes.

Here in Texas at least, as I found out, they don't write the amount of the fine on the ticket, but there was a piece of paper the nice policeman gave me that had a chart..

I'll bet he's looking at about $500 or so.

Now, does he learn anything from this?

And where beside Germany do you need to be doing 97 to merge onto the highway? If I had a BS flag I'd raise it.. LOL

LOL... only up state. Everywhere else in Florida the biggest hills are speed bumps.

When i was in highschool i was running late one day and back then i had a sports car. It was 8:10 a.m and i was doing 45 in a 15mph school zone. Needless to say it was a $500.00+ ticket. Cop was a real di*k too because the school zone speed limit ends at 8:15 am plus there was no one around.

Long story short i gave the info to my lawyer at a ticket defence agency and i ended up paying a little more then $200.0 w/ lawyer fees. Also they gaurantee no points on you license which is the most important thing.
