Effective Solutions to FLEAS on dog!

Hey guys and gals...

So I have a beautiful black lab and a not so beautiful stray/turned our pet golden retriever, both of which continue to have fleas. They are brown, and fairly large. The dogs live outside in about a 1/4 acre dog run with mostly dirt and trees.

That said, even when I bathe then several times a week with cheap flea shampoo nothing happens. I almost threw up yesterday when I went to hose the dogs off because of the heat and I saw at least 15 of them surface on my lab.

I've had it with them, and want help to help my dogs. They deserve better!! HELP!

Frontline, works great on my dog and he hits the dog parks on a pretty regular basis. Been using it for a couple years and have maybe seen all of 2 or 3 fleas. Super expensive, but well worth it IMO

I found Frontline spray to be excellent after an infestation has been discovered. I comb out all of the fleas I can find, and then I put on latex gloves and rub the sprayed on liquid deep into the fur, down to the skin. This kills them completely. The Frontline topical application is great for prevention. Yes, it is expensive, but it's well worth it. Fleas are beastly little vermin .

As prevenatives, I alternate between frontline one time and capstar the next.

If an infestation is discovered then I use both at the same time. You also have to treat the area. Outside is soo much easier to treat.
For my yard, (2 acres) I buy what ever granual is cheap from the local Home and garden store, walmart or where ever. Then 2 days later I lay a border of sevin dust aroun the parameter.

My pooch gets Revolution, or Sentinel.

Q: What is Revolution® (selamectin)?
A: Revolution is the first-ever FDA-approved, topically applied medication for dogs that:

Prevents heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) disease

Kills adult fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) and prevents their eggs from hatching

Treats and controls ear mites (Otodectes cynotis)

Treats and controls sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei)

Controls American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis) infestations

I used to do the granualar deal also. I used Diazinon for years until they quit making it. It was great for all kinds of bugs. Now they have Triazicide, doesn't work as well so I quit using it.

They still make a Diazinon but it's like 2% or something, nothing like it use to be and not near as effective. Use to I could spread diazanon and forget about it for a couple of years, nothing was going to come close to the yard.

When we lived on the coast we had flea problems. I'll kick in another vote for Frontline. That stuff is amazing! Our dog had fleas and brought them inside for our inside cat to get too. We treated both animals and within 2 days they no longer had fleas. After that we just treated the dog and since the cat didn't go outside, they never had fleas again.

Thank God we don't have issues with fleas here, haven't seen a single one since we moved in 2 years ago and we now have 3 critters that spend time outside.

PSS-Mag is correct!

This is a very important point. Treating the dogs alone will not solve the problem. You must treat the area. A wetable form of Sevin from a sprayer works great in the yard and around the foundation of the house. I even did my garage area. Two weeks later, another application....... fleas gone, never returned.
