Which BTW, I can still tell you who I first called while taking a dump, after we got our first cordless phone when I was a kid.
We were one of the first to get one, everyone else was still corded, which was unussual, ussually we were one of the last ones to get new technology. It just happened that the corded phone went out and dad bought a cordless to replace it.
I'd wanted to call someone from the john, after a few days, as I was walking to the bathroom, I grabbed the phone and took it with me. I dialed my buddy Lance up and was like, Dude, you'll never guess where I'm calling you from!

That wouldnt need to recognize the router, the only thing that has to recognize the router is actually nothing.
The router has to recognize the computer then it allows information to pass through to and from the computer though it.
You can set time limits on how long a connection is held, might check that for losing connection.
You can also allow programs to use certain ports, which maybe what you will have to do on the easy link to open that port in the router to tell it to allow that type of data through on that port.
Firrmware, as in the routers firmware update?
What version of router did you get and what version of firmware are you using on it?

I was online with linksys for a while. I am deducing, since when I have the DSL hooked from modem to wireless router to PC and continually lose my dsl connection to the PC that there is something wrong with the router. I was online with linksys 2 times and lost dsl connection twice while troubleshooting. THAT SUCKS! . My modem works fine without the router being hooked up. I think we're going to get a new router. Then my daughter can surf on her new macbook.

Did you check for IP conflict?
Do you get the "network connection lost" balloon?
When you lose connection can you ping to the router or the modem or both?
From the vague information sounds like the router is dropping the either the modem or your computer for some reason. Whether it be a conflict or a setting telling it to disconnect or a problem with the router, often a firmware update will solve that.
If it's a setup issue, then you can buy 100 routers and have the same problems.
If you do buy a new router though, if the one you have is V4 or ealier, I would be willing to pay shipping for it if you'd be willing to send it to me, I need a repeater and I can turn V4 or earlier into a repeater.

Who knows. Maybe we need to get on the city WIFI service. Is WIFI fast?

DSL modem and Internet Provider would help substantially.
Your modem may not be set up to be networked, or shared and your ISP wont help you unless you buy a router from them. Otherwise you will be on your own and no router will work with thier modem until the settings are changed.

AT&T ships trimode modems these days - the default mode of operation is as a router and connecting a second router does NOT work well at ALL till you kick the modem into bridge mode or PPPoE on modem with IP passthrough.
The WRT54G version 6 is junk, by the way. Starting with version 5 they switched from Linux to VXWorks, which is garbage. Take it back and order a WRT54GL from somewhere. That's a reissued WRT54G version 2 and it's a good router.
