What kind do you use ?
Alright guys, I know we've had threads like this before, but there is always something new to add. What kind of wifi router do you use and why did you decide on that one over others on the market?
I am currently running a motorola br700 with a belkin54g wireless router.
Just looking to replace my wifi router.

Linksys WRT-54G.
The reason was price, performance, reviews and expandablility.
It was the first and still one of teh few with 3rd party firmware to open up it's potential. All the features of a high end router at a home networking cost.

Linksys WRT54G v4 running DD-WRT.
I've been having periodic problems with it though. I'd like to build a dedicated box to act as a router and possibly NAS, but I haven't been able to justify the cost to myself yet.

Linksys wrt54gs along with a Linksys Wireles G printserver.
Cost and reviews....so far so good. I did have a little trouble setting it up: the thing is idiot proof, so of course I had to screw it up-
> it would not recognize the built in 10/100 on my pc, so just added a 10/100 card and presto, up it popped. Saw my Sony Vaio right away with no problem.

Naw, set up was a PIA for me too, took 6 hours, 1 hour with tech support where we concluded the unit was bad. Exchanged it, same thing, another 3 hours with tech support and come to find out it was just an IP conflict with my DSL modem. DOH!!!!

What I use and what I recommend are 2 different things.
Recommend: Linksys WRT54GL (not WRT54G). The WRT54GL is a reissued old version of the WRT54G that is Linux-based. It's very reliable and accepts 3rd party firmware to increase its versatility. The current WRT54G uses VXWorks instead of Linux, this has been quite problematic.
Use: D-Link DI-624. It's a piece of crap. Why do I use it? I got it free. It's so bad I finally neutered it and am using it as just a wireless access point connected to a trusty old Linksys BEFSR41 wired router (I must have 4 or 5 of those kicking around). When used as a router, the D-Link reboots itself about once an hour. Neutered, it hasn't rebooted yet.

Netgear WNR854T Why? Because it is awesome! Setup is a breeze. Thus far not one problem and range is out of this world. Discovered it when I had a problem account, a large warehouse that needed wireless throughout but was not willing to dish out of extenders. In one area this thing even t/r through to block walls over nearly 170' signal is weak but it is the only router I've ever used that could work at that location. Still like my truck better though! :-)
