NASA: Global warming to cause more severe storms in USA

Bite me, it's slow round here:

By Seth Borenstein, AP Science Writer
WASHINGTON — As the world warms, the USA will face more severe thunderstorms with deadly lightning, damaging hail and the potential for tornadoes, a trailblazing study by NASA scientists suggests.
While other research has warned of broad weather changes on a large scale, like more extreme hurricanes and droughts, the new study predicts even smaller events like thunderstorms will be more dangerous because of global warming.

The basic ingredients for whopper U.S. inland storms are likely to be more plentiful in a warmer, moister world, said lead author Tony Del Genio, a NASA research scientist.

And when that happens, watch out.

Sweet. Severe thunderstorms in the Midwest rule, bring it on. Just stay away from my neighborhood.

i dont believe global warming is caused by us, but a cycle, but it is causing ****ed up weather IMO.

last october in buffalo , we received up to 3 feet of snow in some areas like my own. Friday october 13th, leaves were still on trees. Wet snow took down a lot of trees and powerlines. 300,000+ people without power for a few days, some up to weeks. Basements like mine without pressure system backups or generators (we have one now... about to get a 2nd) got flooded. Ours had 3 ft and ruined the finished room down there and other things. All the schools had a week off and it really just plain sucked. Sure more rain and thunderstorms people will understand it. But to be caught offguard like we were last year in october is really something im worrying about in the future..

Sounds like a typical Buffalo winter to me. You guys get hammered a lot worse than us,... even though I'm only about an hour down the road. We get colder weather, but not quite as much snow.
Yeah, I hear ya though. You don't expect that kind of weather in October. I remember the storm you're talking about. Buffalo was shut down.

Hey, do you ever cruise to the Falls on Sunday nights with the Vette? Talk about a car mecca! We do that cruise often, in fact we're heading down this Sunday, especially since it's a long weekend. The No Frills on Lundy's lane is the spot.

Sheesh... it really must be slow around here. Not only did Jamz post this, but I actually read it.

Oh well.

Think I'll go count pennies now.

That's not far!! You're as close to the Falls as I am, in fact I think you're closer. It takes me about 45 minutes if I take the Queen E all the way, but we usually do the scenic route and hit the cruise-in at Beam Me Up Scotties first, and then head over to the Lane. Lots of Americans drive across the bridge for this. I've seen some great street action out in the sticks, about 10 minutes from the Falls.

All I'm saying is, if you've never done it, you owe it to yourseklf to check it out. I'm not exagerating when I say it's a car mecca on Sunday nights.

This last winter left the BC mountain ranges with 100-150% of average snowpack. Still not sure how GW caused more snow than normal but they said it did so it must be true.

heh ill check it out sometime. Dont know if you heard about it but the Marilla town car and bike show was back in early august i think, maybe late july, they expected a 100 or 200 cars. turned out there were over 700 cars and 400 bikes . Best show ive ever been to

No, I've never heard of that show. I assume Marilla is a Buffalo burb?
I guarantee you, you'd love the Falls ..lol You'd be amazed at what the Niagara Regional Police allow to be driven on the street They're pretty good about it, as long as there's no stupidity involved.

We get 500+ cars, trucks and bikes at Mapleview Mall in Burlington every Wednesday night. Again, it's not odd to see Americans show up for this cruise-in, even though Burlington is a bit further from the border.
