Question How to lift a tree... No really.

Remember last year when I picked up this tree with my F-150?

The time has come again where we need to get another one. So we found a tree and have it ready to go. Here's the problem. Last year it was loaded using a bull dozer and some big chains. This year, the tree is even bigger in diameter, but shorter overall (10' - 12' long). We've got plenty of guys, pickup trucks, and a flat bed trailer. Ideas? It's currently sitting on flat level ground with nothing around it besides a few other downed trees.

I don't know much about lifting trees, but I can show you a great clip of how NOT to take down a basketball hoop!

No idea. It's a 10 - 12' long cedar tree, and it's BIG. And no winch.

Can you use pipes and smaller logs to leverage it up enough to back a trailer under it, then use a come along to pull it on up?

BTW, what are you doing with it?

Can it be stood up on the root ball with out harming it? If so stand it straight up, back a trailer up to it (the lower the better) then lay it gently down on the trailer. Just make sure to have some dudes brace the back of it while you lay it down so it does't slide out on you. Then muscle the root ball onto the trailer and away you go.
Just think'n out loud....

Just to give you an idea of how huge this tree is, the root ball is about 5.5' -6' tall, and it's been way trimmed down.
Captain, I can't drag it 3 miles through town... And we're not looking to buy anything.
Closer - It'll be turned into a Cudgel. Imagine a 8 - 10' tall tree with designs and stuff on it. Oh the things we do for St. Pats...

Well, could you cut a hole in the end of one side of the tree and jack it up with a high lift?

make a ramp so the trunk can slide up on to the trailer then pull it on with a truck. Use 2 other trucks to hold the trailer in place from the rear corners.

Or, what about renting a cherry picker. the ones they rent are stronger and will actually pick quite a bit of weight. not enough to pick the whole trunk but enough to pick up the end and put on the trailer. you can then drag it on the rest of the way using the picker to help take some weight off.

Problem is, we're on a very tight budget and can't really afford nor do we want to rent anything...
