Police: Head Football Coach Attacked Wife with Cinderblock

DALLAS -- The Bryan Adams High School football team will play their first game Friday night without their head coach.

Head coach and athletic director Mike Smiddy, 36, was arrested for allegedly attacking his wife with a folding chair and a cinderblock.

He is charged with aggravated assault.

According to a police report, Smiddy and his wife got into an argument Monday night at their home in Far East Dallas. During the argument, police said the head coach threw a folding chair at this wife and then struck her in the forehead with the cinderblock.

The police report did not say why the couple was arguing.

Tina Smiddy suffered a large gash that exposed part of her skull.

Police said Smiddy prevented his wife from getting medical help for several hours.

When doctors examined Tina Smiddy, they found bruises and scratches from previous abuse.

The coach presided over a pep rally at Bryan Adams Thursday afternoon but was arrested when he returned home.

The Dallas Independent School District has put him on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Not that this is the case here, but I find most high school and below level coaches all have one thing in common. They are pretty high strung.

Most of them played ball growing up, probably played HS ball, then might have played a bit in a div 2 or 3 school never making it any further than that. Most of them grew up as probably one of the bigger fish in their small pond then the real world kicked in and dropped them down a few notches. They are bitter and pissed that they did not get what they wanted and in turn take it out on the people around them who still have a shot at something better unlike themselves who have hit the end of the road.

What if she cheated on him?

I'd hit my wife in the head with a cinder block too.

Just a smidgen of doubt, eh?

It should never come to cinderblock slinging by any means. If she took him back after that, that is a get out of jail free card for him.

There was a hs coach here that went apechit and threw a clipboard during halftime......it bounced off the wall and hit this dude in the face and bloodied him up pretty good...........that player later died when he was struck by a linedrive in a minor league baseball game (just recently).
