Fusion owners chime in!
I'm thinking about picking up a new Fusion next week. Pros, Cons or any advice would be great!
AWD or front?
4 or 6 cylinder? Is there that much of a power and MPG difference?
Are you happy with your's?
Ride quality?
Anything else?
I really want to hear about highway MPG.
Thanks, FishX65

The Fusion/Milan/Zephyr are the best thing Ford's done in a while.
I'd get the front drive model myself, just 'cause the PTU and RDU are a pain in the *** to service if/when it's necessary. Otherwise, they're solid cars.

A buddy of mine has an old Taurus and an old Honda with the Taurus having problems and the Honda having no problems so therefore he is pushing me away from a Fusion and towards a Honda... do you guys have any unbiased opinions regarding what you would pick?
I dunnno... I'll give you my opinion. It's fair... but yet kind of biased.
The Fusion:
Well it's a Ford Passenger Car... it's front wheel drive or you can get it in all wheel drive. As far as quality that is built into a Ford Passenger Car, I can't say that it is good, not even great. It's average. As in it will be prone to problems as other generations of Ford Cars have, with some exceptions. Don't expect it to be like a Ford F-Series, like the F150... where you could run it into the ground and have minimal issues with it. What I mean by exceptions are the Crown Victoria and the Mustang. They have heavy duty engines, and a superior drivetrain combinations... and rear wheel drive. Which gives a much more refined driving experience.
Other car makers:
Well, Dodge isn't bad with the new 300, and the Magnum. Then again, they have their own set of problems. If you go foreign... go with Honda or Hyundai... actually Kia isn't too bad... if you go with the Sorento, it's probably one of the bed small SUV's because it is built on a ladder frame (similar to the F150)... I've driven one, and it was great.
All in all, Ford has come a long way in innovations... but you still can have a problem with any car. It's mechanical and it's pot luck.

Not biased, but a straight shooter. I love Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and new found respect for Hyundai, Chrysler, and Kia. But, this is the best family car Ford has released since the 1973 Torino. Certainly the most well rounded car.
Points:
Got one
Love it
31 MPG combined city/hwy
Quite roomy
We didn't get a loaded one, but it's pretty well equipped. The cloth on the seas maybe not as nice as an equivalent Honda Accord, but not way-worse either. Not as expensive as the Honda either.
Rock Solid
4 cyl is a little raspy at start up, but once warm, she's quiet as a mouse. V6 would be smoother, albeit with less MPG.
Best stock/standard stereo I've heard in a car under $20,000.00
As a daily driver, (Fusion SE, FWD, 4 cyl., ) is pretty damn hard to beat, for the price.

The Ford Fusion is a class leading value, and all around car. I have researched this car a LOT because my little sister wanted one. We test drove all of the makes and models in the class. The Accord was also a nice car, but not quite the value of the Fusion. I also think it looks like an old person car, personally.Tthe Fusion has a lot of style- only thing I dislike are the chrome taillights. I have a feeling a can of Nightshades would remedy that.
It rides like an absolute dream, and most agree the 4 cyl (184hp) has plenty of pep. the Accord 4 cyl was a DOG. If you want a good freeway car, without a doubt go for the 4 cyl FWD.
*Oh, and the Fusion beat out ALL of the competition in BOTH the Car and Driver test in all areas, and the Road and Track test.

I love mine. 2.3 liter 4 cylinder 5 speed auto. 11,000 miles, NO problems.
When I bought mine, I test drove both the four cylinder auto and the 6 cylinder auto, with the full interntions of buying a 6 banger. The difference between the two was minimal, not worth the $1700 difference it was gonna cost me. I've been driving for almost 30 years and these four bangers have sure come a loooong way. It's got plenty of pep and is fun to drive.

Thanks, and please keep the info coming!
I found a Fusion website and it sounded like a lot of owners where not very happy with the MPG of the V6. Looks like going with the 4 cylinder might be the way to go. I'm gonna head out and test drive both the 4 and 6 this week. How's the road noise at around 75mph?

What's that? (It's quiet)
Any car is going to be a little louder on concrete than asphalt, but this is a very liveable car... You won't be disappointed. At it's price, I'm telling you- you can't beat it. In certain areas, yes- overall, no. This is an automotive, jack of all trades.
Like I said, the Ford 4-banger is not as buttery smooth (in first gear) as the Honda's we've owned- but I'm telling you, after 1st gear- this car is as smooth as any v6 I've driven.
Most of the time I ride in it, my wife's driving it. I only drive it to her Mom's house occasinally, and to the gas station to fill it up. So, my trips in it are short- but it's very comfortable.
We don't take it on the long trips because she beats the snot out of it in daily driving @ over 70 miles per day, in Dallas heat, and city traffic- so we give it a break on the weekends- or on long trips (which is probably when we should use it; especially at it's 30+ miles per gallon.)
I could do a 500 mile trip in it, no problem.
Then again, my wife drives it like it's an Indy car, so maybe that's why first gear seems a little rough around the edges to me.
We have it 18 months, and put on 18,000 miles so far. The only problem it had was a bad battery. Battery replaced at about 13,000 miles, and so far, so good...
I'm gonna purchase one in the morning. I want to try and find a new white 07 with a moonroof and leather. There is a $1000.00 rebate on 4 banger and a $1500.00 rebate on the 6. I looked at the used market but with A-plan and the rebate it's almost cheaper to buy a new one.
