I don't know about you guys, but when I went through boot, I pretty much got my butt handed to me everyday.

Although I wouldn't doubt some DI's go too far, it's crap like this that will ultimately cost those young Marines' lives because we have to be nice in camp and they won't be as ready for combat. Sad....

What the hell! What ever happend to trying to prove how tough you were? I would have been glad to run head first into a trash can. Even if i would have hurt myself i would like to prove myself to the Sgt and show him im a tough SOB.

WTF did the recruits expect, camping out in tents and roasting marshmallows around the campfire? I'd be shocked and appalled if I found out a new recruit made it through boot camp without a bruise on him.

I spit a loogie on the ground once...DI made me pick it up and put it in my pocket. It was one of those "good morning loogies" too.

He'd ask me about it through out the day. He'd want to see it, and ask me to pull it out of my pocket....of course it's part of my cammies now. So, I'd have to spit a fresh one in my hand and put THAT one in my pocket.

..and you can bet your *** I never spit on the deck again.

"The DI is God..."
Damn rights he is, their job is to train the recruits to survive in combat and kick ***. Its the Marines, last thing they need is soldiers who are coddled.

He's got 225 counts against him and they lead off the article about pushing someone into a trash can?

Either there is more to the story or he got stuck with a bunch of whiny sissies.

Maybe they thought they were in the Air Force

j/k

But seriously, I dont know why these people enlist and then expect it to be like summer camp and when it gets hard they go crying about it. They should know (and if they dont they should be drummed out) that they are being prepared for far worse, those DIs are there to train them to be tough and survive. The enemy can and will do far worse than any DI will do and I think thats the point behind them being hard asses.

as a Marine Sgt i can tell you things have changed drasticly in the last 8 years as far as how hard a DI can push his recruits, there are so many rules, they have to time how long they can IT (intensive train) a recruit, it is like a punishment back in the day they could do it till you couldnt move any more. back in the day it was comonplace for a gut shot or a heart check (punched in the gut or the chest) if you screwed up, now they cant even lay a finger on you. i sincerly believe that this kinder form of training will make Marines less likely to perform in combat, due to instant obedience to orders, if you think about the order given to you under fire even for a split second it can get people killed. this instant obedience to orders is something instilled in bootcamp mostly from fear of the DI but it sticks with you your whole life. most of you will understand what i am trying to say.

Ridiculous...

I spit on the deck once during a run out at the old flight line in PI... ONCE!
I remember getting a gun shot too... right before I went on the 1/4 deck (my one and only time) and being worked til I literally couldn't move anymore.

I heard rumors about "stress cards" a few years ago too. Never actually met anyone who had them in boot though.

The military is being populated by a bunch of pansies who have no discipline and will end up getting the guy to his left KIA. Go to Iraq and ask the insurgents to "be nice"... and then explain to your buddy's family how you got him killed by and IED or RPG cause you felt conditions were too harsh.

WTF.
